LOL

I read on a Dutch web site that the default setting logs all your key strokes and send them to Microsoft. They do that to create a more user friendly environment for you. Obviously, this is a security nightmare.

My employer has directed all employees to not upgrade to windows 10 until all security risks have been addressed. May take a while, I bet.

In the interests of balance, my understanding is that the keystroke logging was during the beta testing trial until, well, three days ago. I have not seen confirmation that your computer no longer phones home to Microsoft with those details, but you can bet people are watching for it, and we will hear about it if they do indeed continue.

Although primarily a Mac user, I have a Bootcamp partition on an older (late 2008) MacBook Pro where I have Windows 7 Ultimate installed for those occasions when Windows is necessary for work or whatever.

I had't booted up the Windows partition in ages, so yesterday I did just that to install the umpteen gazillion updates that had accrued, and sure enough, after everything was up to date, I had a "Get Windows 10" item in my task bar. So even part-time Windows-on-Mac users are not immune. Might give it a try anyway though.

A very conservative estimate.....

I think those who get win 10 via upgrade will also be offered the option of a clean install. Presumably to remove all traces of the win 8 disaster, also for the porn guy to clean up his photos folder

What I'm wondering is I have a Toshiba laptop running Win 8.1 but when purchased it the OS was Japanese. I have now downloaded the appropriate English installs and it runs mostly in English. when I go to download Win 10, will they allow me to choose the language I want, or am i stuck with Japanese. Anyone know about this?

No, but I have the same situation. Interested in the answer. You first :).

I was going to jump to Win 10 but all this and other stories I have read make me think I'll wait a bit. I am not sure if that means I will no longer be eligible for the free upgrade. I read somewhere in a review that Win 10 has kept the tiles and tablet style sweepy icons and such which makes me wonder if upgrading is even worth it, as that is the only feature I truly and deeply hate and wish cancerous lesions on the designer thereof.

It's a hybrid of what used to work....XP, Win 7, mixed with the shit that didn't to keep the tablet people happy. Start menu is back on the left hand side, combined with the tablet tiles.... The porn slideshow the guy got caught with is probably the photo tile as seen below. Photos stored anywhere else won't show up... I think

If your machine was supplied with a Japanese OS originally you will need to install a Japanese 10 upgrade. Went through it last night. Reverted my Admin user to Japanese and the auto update went through. Install language when finished.

Yep, Wagyl, that's another one that will be really appreciated by my employer. NOT.

It's time Microsoft thinks about their user base of businesses, which are much more conservative than private users.

Log into the first account created on the machine, usualy, it's the one with all the administrative rights on the machine.
Switch the default language for this account to jap.
Do the updates.
Add the other languages (again !?)...

I create my own admin user for all the installs on my home computer just as a double dumb setting. So whatever user you are going to be using during the upgrade, it will need to be in Japanese.

Same computer, I did a win 10 reset install with the delete folders also this afternoon (as good of a time as any to cleanup). There is no need to download the languages in this 2nd case and all the menus can be done in English.

I borrowed this from another site.......

http://thenextweb.com/microsoft/2015/07 ... e-updates/

Windows 10 uses your bandwidth to send other people updates

Microsoft's FAQ:

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/wind ... zation-faq

Basically they use your system as part of a torrent network unless you opt out.

How do I turn Delivery Optimization off?
Here’s how:

Go to Start Start button icon, then Settings > Update & security > Windows Update , and then select Advanced options.
On the Advanced options page, select Choose how updates are delivered, and then use the toggle to turn Delivery Optimization off. When turned off, you'll still get updates and apps from Windows Update and from the Windows Store.

Judging from this thread there is a crowd supping at that particular teat. I suppose the cautious are also not the type to throw caution to the wind and start a new life in a new country, so we self select here for the adventurous, but I try to choose my adventures.

So I upgraded to 10 on the surface as planned. Not sure if it's because it's "Microsoft hardware" or what but so far the only glitch was it recognizing my Jpn keyboard as a US keyboard...before I updated the 10 install. The update apparently installs all the necessary drivers so one restart later and everything looks good. Noticeable performance (speed) increases here and there. My only real complaint is I prefer clean installs rather than upgrades.
