Vintage Apple

Postby emperor » Thu Feb 02, 2006 4:49 am

I found an Apple eMate 300 lying around the house today: dont know where it came from, but i know its sure as hell not gonna get any more usage.
Its in perfect nick & boxed.
I saw some one selling them new(?) on ebay for $100 a pop.
Should I sell it for a quick buck r do you reacon it might be worth something in the future? (shirley they mustve sold a buttload of these?)
maybe if i were to hang on till the 1st of April (apples' 30th anniversary)?

We have a few of these lying around the office in various states of repair with our Vintage Newtons as well. We have a heap of stuff - cables, software, cases etc. We used to own the Newton shop in Ginza in the good ol' days.

There is still a cult following both in the US and in Japan. If you want to see what the market price check the following links:

Newton talk - email list Check the archives or join and advertise it on there.

There is a Japanese Newton club and user group still around and if you are interested I can hook you up with them.

Thanks GG!
Im checking that site out now.
Do you know if its tricky to transfer files from an emate to say an ibook running tiger or a pc running win/xp - there seems to be a PCMCIA slot - which i presume would allow to connect via ethernet (or usb?)
Does newton save text files as .txt?

The Newton has a proprietary file format but there are tools out there that can do the conversions. BTW somebody has just ported the Newton OS to ported to the new Mac OS's via an emulator and also to Linux. There are still lots of people playing around with the code.

BTW if you need Japanese for the Newton I still have the softloadable localisation software with handwriting recognition lying around somewhere. UniFEP More Newton Software It can also still be purchased from MaidoMac
