Repairs on an Asus laptop

Postby ichigo partygirl » Fri Jun 02, 2006 10:26 am

Hey all
I need to get an Asus laptop repaired ASAP - does anyone know of anywhere in the Tokyo/Yokohama area which either specialises in Asus or laptops bought outside of Japan??? Both Bic and Yodabashi refused to look at it because it was bought outside of Japan.
Thanks for your help

It just wont turn on - whatsoever. There was no sign this was going to happen, no problems, either hardware or software wise. Very very strange. it is a very good friend of mines, and he has all his research, photos, important documents etc on it so he is extremly desperate to fix it.

Hey Ichigo!
Most PC Depot stores have a advice/maintenance"corner" and offer pretty good service for things like that. I've had good luck with them in the past, but like all such shops, there are horror stories about also.
See here for a location!
Hope it helps!

Take it to one of the larger PC stores with a help desk. The problem could likely be a bad power supply and they may have one on hand to test. Even if it takes some time to order one you will at least know if it will run.

Has he tried taking out the battery and leaving it unplugged for a few hours? Sometimes they work again after that.

His data is probably fine unless the machine has suffered a serious meltdown internally. If he can't get this one fixed then he will be able to read the data with a different computer.

You could also contact the companies ASUS suggests for service:
http://www.asus.co.jp/aboutasus.aspx?show=3

However, notebook service is very expensive... If it is totally dead then buying a used machine to replace it is likely cheaper than fixing it.

Thanks for the advice all. We contacted the official Asus people in Japan (thanks for the link FGLurker) so now we are just waiting for them to call us back to see if it can be fixed.

Please let us know how it goes... I've thought about buying an ASUS notebook to replace my aging Toshiba Libretto. Interested in hearing how their service is.

Repaired !!!

Postby ichigo partygirl » Fri Jun 09, 2006 4:44 pm

We got the laptop back repaired today - the service we recieved was spectacular. We firstly sent the laptop to Chiba on Friday. Monday we recieved an email saying they had got the laptop, then on Tuesday we recieved an email saying that it couldnt be repaired in Chiba so they were sending it to an office/partner company in Nagano. Today we arrived home to find the laptop had been delivered back to us. They had fixed the laptop (electrical/power supply fault) and sent it all the way back to us completly FREE OF CHARGE, as the computer was still under its 2 year warrenty in Russia(must be a worldwide warrenty??). Quick(1 week including all the sending around = amazing in Japan), prompt and very easy to deal with.

Thanks from both of us for your help in finding the people to fix it!

Awesome news! Good to hear that it worked out so well.

ASUS will definitely get serious consideration when I end up buying my next notebook.
