OS 10.5-equipped Mac

Postby Catoneinutica » Mon Oct 29, 2007 3:20 pm

Any fg's been waiting for the release of OS 10.5 to buy a new Mac? If so, any advice on which of the hellish, endless-loop-jingle-playing electronic stores has the best price/"points" deal? The Apple Stores seem to be a non-starter inasmuch as their prices appear to be the same as the denki shops but without any point-card perks.

You might want to wait a few days.

The best you'll do is 5% I think. Not sure but I would imagine that both Bic and Yodobashi offer this.

Personally I'd sooner spend the extra 5% and have a pleasant buying experience at the Apple Store.

well, I am waiting for the rumored slim notebook from apple. Waiting .. patiently.

In the meantime my gf got her 2.8 Extreme iMac with the leopard on it and I inherited her old G5 20" iMac. I quickly installed the leopard on the old G5 imac and I have to say it runs quite well. I did not run into any problems during the upgrade.

Just like many reviews noted, Evolutionary but not Revolutionary.
I like it!

I haven't checked recently, but about a year ago when I was shopping for a notebook and considering a Mac, the best prices I found in Japan for new Macs were via kakaku.com (they still weren't cheap enough at the time to convince me to buy a mac with a 2" smaller screen and much less power for the same price as the PC notebook I eventually got, but eventually I will get around to buying one).
:p

Actually, having read the macrumors article, it looks like the MacBook Pro was already updated to the new Intel-Santa-Rosa-whatever chipset in September, and since it's a Pro I'm looking to buy, I'll go ahead and take the plunge, giving kakaku a look-see before I venture into the pachinko-parlor ambiance of Bic Camera.

-well, maybe I'll wait until next Tuesday...

For the past 20 odd years, I always put in ear plugs before I venture out into Japan's cheerfully sound-enhanced environment. (ま]MUST[/U] buy an external hard disk that's 1.5 times bigger than than your built-in hard disk (160 GB?) to properly use the "Time Machine" backup feature, which is the only reason to use Leopard OS 10.5.
