I need your website expertise

Hi guys,

I need the advice of you guys that are hosting websites.

A friend and I just had a brainstorm at work yesterday and it was so huge, we stopped talking and agreed to never discuss it at work.

So I'm researching web hosting for a blog and forum.

It will be a news aggregate and commentary on the blog side and the forum will be an extension of the blog comments.

Do you know of any good hosting options? I will be doing my own research, but if you know of good solutions already, that gets me up and running that much faster.

Oh, and get this. The domain name I want to use expired on Thursday. One day before the brainwave.
I looked it up and the company has gone out of business and my content will be unrelated to the previous users.

AO, I work a lot with pspinc.com. It is locally-owned-by-Japanese hosting service (in Seattle). I have worked with the from before anyone had even heard of the web and they were doing localization.

I host my own site on Liquid Web, although I do not have a blog or forum (they offer the tools to do so though).
I have the standard plan on the above page ($14.95/mo.) which includes 5GB of disk space, and 120GB of transfer per month.
They have online chat, and any time I've had to deal with them in person, they are prompt, courteous, and native English speaking Americans (AFAIK).

I've been running blogs and other sites on JaguarPC for a couple years now. Before that, I was on IPowerWeb and Dreamhost and I can heartily recommend you stay away from them. Depending on the length of the contract you want, an unlimited bandwidth/storage/database plan costs $5 to $10 a month. I've had small problems with running CGI scripts a couple times, but online support is 24/7 and pretty quick.

Also, they offer one-click installations (and upgrades) of any number of blogging, forum, and CMS applications including WordPress, Nucleus, B2evolution, PHPBB, Joomla, Mambo, etc.

I personally ran MovableType there for a couple years (manually installed) and just switched to WordPress.
