Firefox Quantum

Postby Grumpy Gramps » Thu Nov 16, 2017 8:49 pm

Got 'up'graded today. Arrrrghh, half of my add-ons are gone without a trace. And most of my comfy tweaks, too (as in tabs below address bar). Not a quantum leap, at least not for me.

Nah, your add-ons were in a superposition: they were gone and at the same time they were not. You made the error to observe them, causing their wave function to collapse so that they are now gone with a probability of 50%. The good news is that if you reinstall firefox, another 50% of your add-ons will be gone, so if you try long enough, you'll eventually end up with the most useful half of your add-ons installed...

Yes, on my Linux box it's pretty snappy compared to the former version.

The "NoScript" extension is finally back and ~usable. Doesn't stop the annoying af YouTube "Autoplay" feature, though. I have no idea, which of my many old extensions did stop that one, but now I needed yet another new one just for that purpose.

Translator add-ons are all down as well. Maybe a good thing, I have amassed a whopping five of them and long forgotten, what each one is for :) I'd just need one good one, though, something like what they do in Chrome/Chromium.

Perhaps https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefo ... -autoplay/ is what you seek.

After getting over the usual UI nostalgia, and the loss of my compact theme (hint: https://discourse.mozilla.org/t/firefox ... emes/21705), and after a bit of customisation of the toolbar to repair some dubious design decisions, I am happy with the new version of Firefox.

I also got magically upgraded to Quantum last week (forgot I had the automatically update option checked, oh well).
I was pissed to see that among the now defunct extensions, Tab Mix Plus was toast as I've had the tabs at the bottom for 10 years, but I did find a way to at least move the tabs from the very top, to below the Menu Bar and Bookmarks Bar.

Move the Tab Bar Below the Other Toolbars (like Firefox 1.0-3.6)

Thanks, wagyl. Just this morning I had found this one, coincidentally from the same author.

Oooooh, yes, Tab Mix Plus; I still hope, the author will upgrade it for me :) And I am going to try out that userchrome thing. I understand the logics behind the idea 'address bar underneath tabs', but it is not how I use my browser.

Yes, looks more acceptable. The colors could maybe be more beautifuller, but the tabs are at the bottom now --> happy :)

Thanks, @BigInJapan

by the way, there is no app to filter anime/manga cartoons in google image search???? huh?
its pretty fucking disgusting for numerous anime/manga characters to appear when you search images of historical people.
