Penny Arcade gets Japan

Postby Caustic Saint » Wed Nov 26, 2003 10:37 pm

Well, not exactly, but since this strip does comment on the release of a game in Japan, I thought it'd make for a good link. :)

Anybody read any Japanese press about this game coming out there?

(If you're the non-link-clicking type, it's about Medal of Honor: Rising Sun.)

Hah! I was curious about what they would think about the game, too.

Rave reviews? You mean Japanese gaming reviews?

Woah.

Bah, better than the Germans. Those cock bites won't even allow games like Return to Castle Wolfenstein to be sold in Germany.

Cockbites?!?

You must be a Red vs. Blue fan! :D (I have got to get somebody to get their DVD and send it to me.)

I'd imagine the RtCW thing is due to the Nazi imagery in the game. As I understand it, nothing Nazi-related may be sold in Germany. Even if it deals with killing Nazis.

Dorimaga gave MoH:RS the following scores: 7, 7, 8 - Average: 7.33
and Famitsu gave it: 9, 9, 8, 8 - 34/40 (Gold).

Not too shabby - especially the Famitsu score - considering that the game's all about killing the Japanese troops. I wonder if a game that could be perceived as "anti-American" would be rated as well in the US?

Heh, but of course...

I'm almost surprised that the game wasn't compared to Postal II, or GTA or something, but I guess 50 years of heavy cultural influence and no war in Japan makes things like that seem less bizarre.

After all, it touches heavily on things like Pearl Harbor. I wonder if the dialogue or story lines were edited to make them more Japan-friendly...

Oh, and I can't WAIT to see what they all think of Half-Life 2, considering the apparent social stigma that seems to hurt first-person games (Half-Life wasn't released there I don't think, and there are few Japanese HL players). Any articles on it's showing at TGS 2k3?
