Just because the trademark doesn't show up in a USPTO search doesn't mean a trademark hasn't been filed, just that one hasn't been registered as of yet (there can be upwards to a year and a year and half between filing and registration).

Wii.com (which is down) is held by
Willamette Industries, Inc.
3600 First Interstate Tower
Portland, OR 97201
US
Willamette (a big paper company) merged with weyerhaeuser (another paper/wood product company) in 2002 and the combined entity doesn't seem to do business under willamette anymore.

I can't see Nintendo, especially with their current "fuck you tech whores MS and Sony...look what I can do to gaming with 20 year old touch screen tech" viewpoint, doing a viral like this.

It's already there anyway, under the list of pending applications. No. 78870906
(APPLICANT) Nintendo Co., Ltd. CORPORATION JAPAN 11-1, Hokotate-cho, Kamitoba, Minami-ku Kyoto-shi, Kyoto JAPAN. They have a few applications for Wii in all sorts of classes.

Nintendo Says Women, Elderly Key to Wii Game Player

Bloomberg, Sept 20.....``We want to appeal to mothers who don't want consoles in their living rooms, and to the elderly and to young women,'' President Satoru Iwata said in an interview. ``It's a challenge, like trying to sell cosmetics to men.''...``We are not battling Sony or Microsoft,'' Iwata said. ``Our enemy is consumer indifference to games.''....

I say the radio station should help with the 3 children (no mention of the ages) now left without a mother! I'd never heard of water intoxication and it sounds like none of the contestants or even those running the competition appreciated how serious it is - something the radio station should have known before promoting such a contest. Chances are, if they had looked into it properly, they would have abandoned the idea or been told by their insurer to forget it.

Sometimes there's a reason why no one else has done it before!

Sadly, my signature also applies.

We've had a Wii in our office for about 6 months. We can use it during our free time. We got it early only because wii do all the patent protection for Nintendo. I haven't had time to try in out, only because I have no free time because we do all the patent protection for Nintendo.

I promised my son that I would buy him one for his birthday if he got A's on his report card. His birthday is next week and I have been spending the better part of the last week trying to find one. Oh the joys of crazed consumerhood.

Don't play Wii in a room full of breakables

Postby dimwit » Sun Feb 11, 2007 1:42 pm

Well I smashed the shit out of a couple of lights playing Wii baseball last night. My wife and son have knocked over stuff playing tennis. I get the feeling there is going to be a rash of Wii related household injuries as a result of playing it in the confined spaces of most Japanese houses.

Tribune: Wii bowling knocks over retirement home
At the Sedgebrook retirement community in Lincolnshire, where the average age is 77, something unexpected has been transpiring since Christmas. The residents, most of whom have never picked up a video game controller in their life, suddenly can't put the things down. "I've never been into video games," said 72-year-old Flora Dierbach last week as her husband took a twirl with the Nintendo Wii's bowling game. "But this is addictive." Dierbach said residents love the Wii set up in the clubhouse lounge. "They come in after dinner and play," she said. "Sometimes, on Saturday afternoons, their grandkids come play with them. "A lot of grandparents are being taught by their grandkids. But, now, some grandparents are instead teaching their grandkids"...more...

wii controllers

Postby james » Sat May 24, 2008 12:34 pm

my wife and sons are going over to canada for the summer, while i stay back in japan (ostensibly to work ;) ). we have a wii here and my parents bought one a few months ago.

i know that without modding a system the games won't play, but can anyone here confirm if the boys bring over their controllers if they can use them on a north american market system?

seems grandma bought mario cart and an extra wheel or two so they want to play four at a time.

I can't say that I know this from personal experience, but I suspect they should since the wii's connection to the remote works via bluetooth and infrared, both of which should not run into any gov. spectrum regulation hurdles requiring nation/region specific controller versions.

http://www.gamespot.com/pages/forums/show_msgs.php?topic_id=25887293

These forum posts claim that US remotes work in the EU and J remotes work in the US.

Also play-asia, a large video game exporter doesn't mention any specific issues with purchasing wii remotes or nunchuks and they usually have some thing posted when there is a territorial lockout issue with a given item.
