Well, at least Slate had the decency to quote the Penny Arcade strip that covered this same issue 3 months ago. Nothing like providing current content to keep your reades happy.

Funny thing, you can't search for that one in the archives. It doesn't have any search info in the picture, so you can't find it without knowing the title of the comic.

"riszhing shun" is the way i say it 'cuz that's the way sean connery says it.

actually i got MOH for mac and it was fun, but you couldn't switch sides and be nazis. but then i played the network version and got to be a waffen motha--' it didn't feel any different, really. those network geeks kept pickin' me off, so it was actually less fun. :?

i'm looking forward to the new version, might be kinda kewl 8)

What the hell is Electronic Arts smoking?

I've worked there, so take a wild guess! :D

any word of MOH-RS for mac yet?

as a weird aside with EA, i was working on this project called majestic which was a game that messed with your mind, jammed your fax, sent you videos, fake body bags... it was loose. the kinda project i guy could love.

but then stupid krap happens and EA disbands the project.

i'm like the kiss of death for video games. every one i've worked on flopped.

Nambu REVOLVER?

I thought that Japanese infantry had a tendency to always leave their bayonets on. Hmm.

Revolvers in general are better weapons than automatic pistols in jungle areas, as they are less prone to jamming. The Nambu was a piece of junk though.

I think you're mistaking officer's swords with the bayonets. Bayonets make the weapons difficult to bring to bear for firing, since you could slice the guy next to you. You'd only use them on a general charge (bad idea in the days of tanks and machine guns, as the French learned during the first World War) or if you were holding a position and were low on ammunition.

Those weapons all look similar to other nation's weapons.

That revolver looks like the German luger. That Arisaka rifle looks like the British Enfield rifle and that light machine gun looks like the British Bren gun.

I'd made my weapons more original, firing ping pong balls perhaps? I hear Americans cant stand ping pong balls :D

In all my 2-3 years of playing the Day of Defeat mod for Half-Life (ever since the December 1999 release, until a year or two ago), I never really felt strange about shooting at Americans on the German side. Sure, I thought about it, but I didn't exactly lose sleep on it.

Sniping someone with a standard-issue Karabiner 98 is just too satisfying to ignore!

Yeah, but I heard a lot of German gamers ignored the laws and bought the English versions.

Just like how the German version of Half-Life turned the USMC soldiers into MP5-armed robots, which caused German games to just buy the imported English version.

The RTCW demo actually had a German-language warning that stated that it was illegal to posses in Germany.

Sounds like N. Europeans are working their way up to banning war/violence games ....

Video Games Make Kids Fat, Violent, Swedish Experts SayMon Mar 1, 2004 04:19 PM ET
STOCKHOLM (Reuters) -
Video games can make children fat and, in the case of violent games popular among teenage and younger boys, aggressive and even criminal, Swedish experts said on Monday.
The games industry, estimated at $200 million a year in Sweden and $10 billion in the United States, is dominated on the hardware side by Microsoft Corp.'s Xbox, Sony Corp's PlayStation and Nintendo Co. Ltd's Game Boy and GameCube consoles. ....
"But it has been proved beyond dispute that people who watch a lot of violence on television develop aggressive behavior," said Frank Lindblad, a child psychiatrist at Sweden's Karolinska Institute university hospital.

A CHILD pyschologist, eh?

I guess those Mature 17+ meanings mean nothing to Europeans.

I've been playing shooters since DOOM came out (Around 95, which would have made me about 10), and I can't even bring myself to shoot a feral hog (watched one in my crosshairs for about 10 minutes a few months ago, though... lol) or a deer, much less a person.

Just because I've got guns and knives on the brain doesn't mean I want to use them on people.

You know what makes kids fat, violent etc.. low self-esteem or a mental disorder.... not fucking games.
:D I know plenty of non-violent squirmy little skinny Japanese boys that spend hours upon end gaming at home..

But they have a parental structure, family support, and most of them are upper middle class.
