US style game cube

Postby canman » Wed Apr 07, 2004 3:25 pm

Does anyone know if you can purchase a US style Nintendo Game cube here in Japan? I was wondering if any shops in Akihabara might carry them. My Mom sent my son some Nintendo games thinking they would work here, but they don't. I would like to get a US model as well as there are some games that are just not available for the Japanese model.
Thanks

All you need is a Freeloader or an Action Replay. Both of these will allow any Gamecube from any territory to play any game. They're both made by Datel and are distributed worldwide.

I use an Action Replay on mine and it works great.

Best of all - it's 100% legal! :D

I bought free loader

Postby canman » Wed Apr 07, 2004 3:48 pm

But when I play Tiger Woods 2004, it keeps telling me the memory card is corrupted and it won't store any of my information. I bought a new memory card like the free loader instructions stated, but it won't work. I'm not sure if you are familar with the TW 2004, but I must start over with the tutorial everytime I play. Or is it I just got a bad memory card.

Are you saving Japanese and US games on the same memory card? And are you using Nintendo brand cards, or 3rd party ones?

I know the Freeloader claims that you can save games from separate territories on the same card, but I don't mess with that. US games get their own card, and Japanese games get their own card. I've got two Nintendo Memory Card 251s and have no problems at all.

What version is your Freeloader? Is it 1.06b or some other version?

I figured it out

Postby canman » Wed Apr 07, 2004 6:24 pm

I guess I am able to save, but it seems that every time I start the game I have to go trough the annoying warm up. After that I can retreive my player and go from there. I just wish there was some way to avoid the 5 minute intro, but at least I can play and save. It only takes a little time now.
I'm using Free Loader 1.6, and I have a seperate memory card for English and Japanese games.

That's not great, but at least you're not losing your savegame.

I mostly use mine with my Gameboy Player. My Cube is from the US and my GBP is Korean. Weird bit about it is the packaging, disc and manaul are all in Korea, but the on-screen menus are in English. Can't quite figure that out, since it only needs like 10 words for the whole thing. How much would could that've been? (Could be a font issue though. The Cube has Japanese and English in the ROMs already.)
