Another attempt to put a twist on the theme. This place is a Witches' Bar. I think the word "bar" might be used illegally in this case since the place seems to shut at 11:00pm

Tower Records corporate slogan is "No Music, No Life" - with a song sung by Cocco. The store has now tied up with maid cafe Mai:lish for a limited period "No Maid, No Life" campaign in their Akihabara store.

There's now a Nippon Maid Association. They plan to issue a newsletter, set up seminars and officially certify maids.

Here's an interesting new maid service. You can now pay a maid to sleep with you (Japanese). Strictly sleep, though, there's no touching allowed. However, you can rest your head in the maid's lap while she cleans your ears. For 40,000 yen, a maid will come by your apartment from 10:00pm and will stay until 8:00am the next morning. The company suggests you can watch TV or play video games together before dozing off. There's no mention of changing nappies.

The company setting up the service will also have another plan where you can take a maid out for a date between 11:00am and 9:00pm. Their website has a recruitment section where they are looking for potential maids between the ages of 18 and 29 to get both programmes up and running.

Sounds dangerous for the maids. Who knows what an otaku like me is capable of? He could mix some of his model paint into her drinks and and sketch pictures of her while she's out cold.
But seriously, does sound dangerous.

I'm sure that once behind closed doors, some more money will be exchanged and the maids skirt and ankles will soon be up over her head.

And if the client has enough wit/charm/looks and perhaps alcohol, he might be able to get her in that position for free.

No doubt that some desperate poor bastard will take advantage of the situation and try and forcefully have his way with the maid.

Have no doubt though that H would be on the mind of every client because [it's] a fair thought to lie between maids' legs.

Ah come on AO, you ain't buying, you're just renting. I ain't afraid to reach for my wallet if need be, and I'll be willing to bet you that I will get more nibbles on my lure then you will on yours, when bait casting in beautiful downtown Roppongi from that rowboat!

It's only fare.
Never criticize anyone until you've walked several kilometres in their shoes.
Because

1. You're now several kilometres away; and

2. You've got their shoes.

Hey, Bird nothing against free downloads and shareware here, but haven't you ever been in a joint and saw one of the hostesses that you thought was extremely nice, but she definately came with a bar code on her butt?

Free up and downloads are wonderful, but if not available on site.... Scan that bar code, ring it up and gift wrap it, cause I'm on my way to the nearest futon!

I definitely think this is a more honest and honorable way for the girls to make a living than by the parasitic gold-digging and compensated dating. Those girls make me want to puke. Give me a happy hooker anyday and I will respect her more.

The others - you may think you are getting it for free but in the end it will probably cost you more in money and in grief.

I sometimes wonder if women just don't laugh at men going to hostess bars. With a little bit of eye contact, conversation, etc. dumb men(like me) will drop lots of cash. And the women are getting to drink for free! Not only that ,they can scout out new boyfriends.

(I used 'goats' in the title to see if gboothe would respond:p )

Imagine what it must be like from their perspective?? No really - imagine what they must see on a daily basis as a part of their job.. really they are working, they are not there for their health.

They must get to see lots of dirty, drunk, groping men.

I think men might look childish to them. I think that's how some women in Japan look at men, as big children who need to be taken care of.

How would those men look to you?

But I do feel sorry for them for having so much pressure to drink, a point a lot of people will probably not agree with me about. I know a snack owner who used to puke up blood from overdrinking with his customers. If he stopped drinking with them they would likely go home and that was how he provided for him and his family.

Not just the bad guys - how do you think they would view most guys who come into their clubs. (remembering that the only reason they are there is to earn a living no matter what stories they tell you.)

How do they look to me? Am not really sure on that as am not a hostess... let me get back to you on that. But I doubt I would last long as I know there are easier and better ways to make money and I have a low bull-shit tolerance.

A good hostess will let you think that she is there for the fun and good times but really she is just looking at your wallet. But if you think about it logically for a bit and not just what you want to believe when you are there.. how would their world look to you?

But at the end of the day, it is a supply and demand business. If there were no customers there would not be any hostesses.

DON'T YOU DARE RUN DOWN SCARBERIA!:D The area in question for 99.9% of member on the board who have never been there is surounded by industrial malls and factory outlets. And only meters away from Scarborough Grace Hospital where the 2003 SARS outbreak in Toronto was centred.

There is one of the many Toronto Chinatowns located somewhat to the south of the there and that is maybe where they were trying to get their crowd. No surprise it closed.

A plan to open a maid cafe in the Wakayama Prefecture Cultural Centre on the grounds that it represents an integral part of Japanese culture has now been stymied according to the Asahi (Japanese). "Pure Sweet" was due to open on the 20th August but local merchants protested that a civic property should not be used for commercial purposes.

Nobody made the argument that commerce is an integral part of Japanese culture? I'm sure there's a nihonjinron lurking in there somewhere.

I want my mummy!

A nice story from Ryan...

Latest Akihabara geek fetish? One-eyed virginal maid mummies
Japan's otaku geeks have turned their attention away from eyeglasses and maids to focus on kegadoru -- literally translated as "injured idols," who are scantily clad pretty women wrapped in bandages and wearing eye patches, according to Weekly Playboy (9/3).
