French Anime Plagiarism

Marc Maggiori, lead singer with French rock band Pleymo, is also an illustrator and anime fan. He produced a 26 part anime series which he has sold to TV channels France 2 called Children of Okura. It is due for broadcast next year but French animation site Cellofan accuses him of plagiarizing Japanese anime images and gives examples here. The website is attempting to organize an email campaign to "out" Maggiori and has appealed to Japanese animation houses to complain. Local blogger Madame Pilot picked up the story a few months ago.

MDN: Kodansha pulls comics from shelves over image theft
Kodansha has pulled 25 works by cartoonist Yuki Suetsugu out of print and is withdrawing the remaining copies, over allegations that she stole images from the popular "Slam Dunk" comic books by Takehiko Inoue. Kodansha officials said Suetsugu had used images from "Slam Dunk" in her 12-part comic-book series "Eden no Hana." In addition to taking all 25 of her works out of print, it has decided to halt publication of the series "Silver" appearing in monthly publication "Bessatsu Friend." Officials said the stolen images were used in a basketball scene, and bore a close resemblance to those in "Slam Dunk." Suetsugu has admitted having copied the images. "I caused great trouble through my low morals and my naivety," she said in an apology posted on Kodansha's Web site.

Mainichi: 'Slam Dunk' manga magazine fouls out over plagiarism claims
Takehiko Inoue, the author of "Slam Dunk," is faced with allegations of plagiarism just months after he sent shockwaves through the manga world by making a similar, and successful, accusation against another artist [above]..."Some of the cuts of players pictured in 'Slam Dunk' are almost identical to the photos of NBA players in basketball magazines. I wouldn't go so far to say that he's done exactly what Suetsugu did and traced other drawings, but there's no doubt he's at least used the photos as a reference," a comic industry magazine's chief editor tells Cyzo. "Considering we're talking about an artist who's sold over 100 million copies here, the effects of being exposed like that could be pretty far-reaching."

I don't think the Wachowski brothers have been widely accused of plagiarism because they have openly acknowledged their debt to Oshii. This YouTube short video is interesting in showing the scenes in "The Matrix" which lifted images directly from "Ghost in the Shell"

That video is from the extras of one of the matrix DVDs.
I will not abide ignorant intolerance just for the sake of getting along.
