Photo shoot !

Postby ejen » Sat Sep 30, 2006 3:03 pm

This is going to be my second time in Tokyo - my first was a few years ago back in 2002 and I had a blast. I think I hit two clubs a night for 4 days straight, wandering home around 6 in the morning...ugh...that was hard. Anyways this time though, I'm thinking of doing a business stock photo shoot (I work as a photographer) while I'm kicking around here. I'll be coming in for a week before heading back to Los Angeles.

So I'm looking for a caucasian male late 20s to mid-40s, 5"8+ who look like a business man.

The idea is everything is about global communication these days so I'm going to photograph shots such as businessman on a cellphone on the streets, businessman on a PDA sitting on a subway or businessman working on a laptop at a park...photos that show business-related acitivites.

I'm willing to pay $150 US for 8 hours and a model release would need to be signed.

I figured there's enough Westerners out in Tokyo who wouldn't mind spending a day out and about. It's more editorial looking or more "fly on the wall" so there's no real posing - just doing simple things like typing on a computer, pretend-talking on the phone, etc. Hell, it'll make a great story to tell people and it'll be an experience :)

----

I'm also piggy-backing another stock shoot at the same time, this you can described as "Lost in Translation" concept. Simple really - caucasian young girl wanders around Tokyo. She looks in store windows, takes tourist pictures, buy soda from the vending machine, walking around....

It's pretty similar to the businessman one which is why I figured, fuck it, why not ?

So also looking for a caucasian girl, early 20s for that one. Same deal $150, model release

----

And I may need an Asian businessman to communicate with the other businessman. I couldn't just help the one guy just by himself so I'll have the two of them talking, gesturing, etc. I really just need about 2 hours for this guy and it would be $50 US.

It's hard enough to find models out in Tokyo - I skip the agencies, $150 US isn't much money by their standards - besides I don't need models, I need people who look like your average normal business man. My only other idea was forums like this and post things up - perhaps an interested soul may chanced upon this.

So what my stuff looks like ? Here's two sites :

I'll be in Tokyo on the 12th so I'll arrange meet & greets just so I can meet the interested folks on that day or the 13th. The shoot will be the following Tuesday - Oct. 17th, 2006.

So if you're interested or curious enough about this, you can contact me off board at ejen_chuang (*AT*) yahoo.com .

Okay, the Simpsons are about to be on, gotta run,...I saw a TV commericals with the Simpsons selling something - funny thing, Homer still sounds like Homer even if he's sprouting Japanese....

In Japan, $150 isn't much by anyone's standards.

:p Yeah.. That's like 4 pints, an hour massage, and a 'happy finish'.. ;)

There used to be a model dude on FG named NeoNecro, but we haven't heard from him recently.. He might be into it, if you stroke his ego a bit..

With Neo you might have to stroke more than his ego!

$150 if probably too low even for Neo. He might be some sort of mutant elephant man by now anyway, he was earning cash being a medical guinea pig.

Oooh, it'll sell alright. Good stock photos that involve people, especially business people, sell very well indeed.

Modeling in Japan has gone to shit. Especialy when gaijin news rags start writing about extras as if they were models ::cough::Metro. Even so 15,000 is a pretty bad wage, you better post your ad on some Russian form because they are the only ones that work for under 2000 an hour. Thats like Nova wages.
Mulboyne you are right to point out about stock photography companies, the normal wage per scene is 40,000 to 50,000 no tax no agent fees.
FGL how is your property investing going on? Last I heard Japan is a shitty market.

Yup, $150 is low but $150 is still $150.

Also looking for a translator to make some phone calls and come with me to visit magazines. Prefer if you have an editorial background and know the market though not totally necessary. $15 US per hour, contact me at ejen_chuang ** at ** yahoo.

If you need anything come March, I'm in my 20's, 6 feet tall, and I've modeled before :)

150 bucks sounds glorious... I'll take anything I can get!

30 000yens for a catalog is really cheap. At my old company foreign models were paid a lot more for a catalog work, that's were the big money is in print.
Those were real models though, it was not a side gig for them and they were part of big agencies.
