New Military-Backed International Schools

Postby Mulboyne » Sun Aug 20, 2006 8:54 pm

Kyodo: U.S. military-backed international school planned in Okinawa Pref.
Japanese and U.S. governments have been working to establish an international school in Okinawa Prefecture that promotes English education among Japanese children with the help of the U.S. military...The plan calls for actively recruiting civilian personnel by the military...The first of such international schools is scheduled to open in Okinawa in 2008...more...

I'm gonna have to call Bullshit on this one. The USFJ has always offered education in their on base school system to Japanese children on a space available basis. It is as expensive as an international school. So the JN's are getting no break except that it is a more strict English enviorment and those who graduate from it will be the better English speakers for it.

However, now that USFJ numbers have reduced through downsizing, the income from JN tuition paying students would do miracles for the schools budgeting, since USFJ's children pay nothing (for those of you from Loma Linda, nothing is described as 0 dollars, zilch, nada, nil, etc,). All of their budget is supplied by the DOD based on school population.

So suddenly we have this new big campaign on the wonderful new system for J-people, which will probably pay the entire budget for the DOD schools in that area, plus some.
