Foreign Currency Account in Yen

Postby Captain Japan » Tue Oct 25, 2005 10:45 am

I'm looking at opening an overseas (outside of Japan) foreign currency account in yen. I'm going to start getting paid by my company offshore in yen. Does anyone have a recommendation for a bank that would be able to receive yen deposits in an account in my name from my company?

Key points would be: Internet access, the ability to convert the yen to dollars and wire to the U.S., tolerable fees, and the ability to withdraw money yen from a Japan ATM.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Ahhh, the Capt'n gets into money laundrying. Well, the Yamaguchigumi comes to mind, but the conversion percentage may be a bit to high!

Have you talked to Citybank? I've got some mates in that area of banking and will see what they have to say and PM you later (or post, if it is of general interest).

Check out my bank in Sweden, SEB. They are very professional and might be able to help you. Here is a link to their info about foreign currency accounts.

Personally I don't invest in anything liquid in Japan Yen because of the poor perfomance of most low risk securities but you can look at Jyske Bank in Coppenhagen if you like. They are very good.

I have had mixed experiences with credit/debit cards. Sometimes setting off bells and whistles when I use them and other times with reletive ease.

I really appreciate the responses. I'm going to look into them all.

GB-sama, this is all very legal. Or so I have been told...

If it's not, cut me in for the usual percentage!

GB-sama, it is funny that you mention the Yamaguchigumi. I might be needing their services in a couple of weeks with regards to my former employer  Any contacts handy? I'll probably make a separate post to FG should that come to be, though it looks like it will...

Hey, you want I should talk to a few of the fellows, hey? We pay'em a little call, explain a few things, huh? We tell 'em we don't like this stuff, break a few fingers and stuff and like your problems go away, huh?

I really like the attitude you guys have :D This whole thing has really been a drag on me.

I need to wait until the end of the month to see exactly what shakes down. At that time I'll know exactly what this stiff owes me. As of right now it is way too complicated to explain. I'll probably start another post at that time.

Until then
