Hey everyone. (Apologies if this is in the wrong spot)

Was looking for a place to order cheeses, spices, and other food products, and
came across 'themeatguy'.

Anyone of you FG ever bought from there? Heard anything? Got any tips (or other sites?) Reviews?

The Meat Guy is amazing. Have been buying from him for years. Product quality is awesome and service is great. His snags are sensational.

Corn flour - I think you can get that from Tokyu hands. But if you want organic natural foods, Tengu Natural Foods is pretty good as well.

When I clicked on the thread title I was taken directly to your post which I read first before the original poster's. I was bit confused - you never mentioned the "Meat Guy" before.

Gomi: thanks for the tip on Tokyu Hands. I wouldn't think to look there for supplies, but I'll make sure I do next time I'm within city range.

Yes I was super surprised at the range of flours and other dry goods at Tokyu Hands. Wheat germ, bran and baking supplies are pretty good.

Also in Shinjuku station there is a Seijo Ishii that is pretty good. Not the one inside the station but the one in the Lumine Building B2 floor.

Also, in HALC on Shinjuku west side in the basement under Bic Camera there is a pretty good selection of grains as well as a pretty good market for fruit and vegetables etc.

Outside of Shinjuku though, I don't know much other than the large and expensive foreign supermarkets like Nisshin and Costco.

The great thing about the Meat Guy though is that he will deliver anywhere in Japan so there is no need to worry about having a foreign supermarket nearby. The cheeses and deli items are fantastic too. We had a 3kg bucket of Kalamata olives delivered the other week and they are fantastic. Good Kalamatas are very hard to find in Japan. We split up the 3kgs with our friends as it really is a big bucket o' olives but it is totally worth it. My partner is a real foodie and so he insists on good olives, feta etc as he makes up his own antipasto stuff. You should see our fridge which is so full of jars with all sorts of good things marinating in them. He roasted about 20 heads of garlic the other day and made his fantastic garlic paste that pretty much goes on everything in our house from breads to mash potatoes.

Costco delivers through TheFlyingPig.com.. Pies are pretty good, and big.. Not sure about the meat.

this is pretty good feedback. I keep sifting thru their pages trying to figure out what to try first. hehe. I've heard bits and pieces about the Costco, but never made the trek over there. maybe one day i will. flyingpig is another site to bookmark. thanks.

Hey OP, if you require a large Grubstake for the homefront, it's well worth the time to go out there and also the sign up fee (if you don't have a Costco card).

not to split hairs, but i think it might be more accurate to say that flyingpig buys a good portion of their stock from costco which they in turn resell. they also carry items which costco doesn't (honey nut cheerios ftw!) and can ship fresh items frozen that costco won't.

their service is great and they're a godsend to people like me living out in the boonies.
