Trip cancellation insurance

Postby vitellus » Fri Oct 23, 2009 6:42 pm

Has anybody ever bought this kind of insurance in Japan? it's an insurance that will reimburse your plane ticket in case you can't go on your trip because of an illness or an accident. It's pretty standard in the US, Europe, Australia, etc...but it doesn't seem to exist in Japan (for example expedia has it but the Japanese version doesn't). Any tips welcome (btw I don't have a credit card...).

Yes, in the past I have bought this though my travel agent. I assume it is still available but I can ask him later today if you need to know for sure.

Well if you give me the name of your travel agent + email and/or phone number I could contact them myself and ask...or send it to my email

Cheers

Hell yeah. A good travel agent is worth his weight in gold.

I use Academy Travel (06-6303-3538 ) in Osaka, run by a Canadian guy who has been in business for ~25 years. He's gotten me tickets that other places have said are impossible and managed to book cheaper fair classes than other places at times as well. I don't even bother calling anyone else anymore, there is no point.

If you just want a ticket to fly from Osaka to Tokyo then an agent can't do anything for you, just book it online. If you're flying overseas though, especially if your trip has multiple segments, a good agent (not some worthless part timer) can make your life a whole lot easier.

Was just thinking about this -- for rather obvious reasons you have to buy trip cancellation insurance at the same time as you buy your ticket. AFAIK it isn't something you can add after.
