BBQ sauce.

Postby Coligny » Thu Sep 17, 2009 10:07 am

Does you knows a local brand (or easily available import) of sauce that would taste like the McDo Nuggets BBQ sauce ?
Could even find that easily in France... But here... no luck until now...

And also... for deep frying at home we got a stuff called 'vegetaline' which when cold is a white somewhat dense/solid paste (like medium hard butter). But turn to oil when warm. I swear I saw some local McDo using something like that in their fryer. Anybody gots a clue aboot where to buy some ?

(BTW why isn't there any food/cooking sub-forum ?)

As usual, thanks for any answer...

You could try "YOSHIDA'S ORIGINAL BBQ" sauce which is a US-based firm founded by a Korean-Japanese emigrant who used to work in a Korean BBQ restaurant. CostCo has it or you could order it through the Flying Pig http://www.theflyingpig.com/tfp/list.asp?SC=371&PR=132&LN=1&sid=54250E7BEADEFF719373

As far as "vegetaline" is concerned, it sounds very much like shortening ... like CRISCO http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crisco Foreign Buyers Club has it here: http://www.fbcusa.com/gs/index.php?main_page=advanced_search_result&search_in_description=0&keyword=crisco

make your own :

cups water
3/4 cup light corn syrup
1/2 cup tomato paste
1/2 cup distilled white vinegar
3 Tbls. molasses
3 Tbls. packed brown sugar
1 tsp. liquid smoke
1/2 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. onion powder
1/4 tsp. black pepper
1/8 tsp. paprika
1/8 tsp. garlic powder

Cost less than 1000yen.

As for the vegetable shortening - you can get that at most any restaurant or commercial grocer.
See you in PyonPyang!

Oh Baby! I must be getting old when I have FAR more interest in the food images on his site than I do the women on NSFW section on this site.....

Thanks a lot to all.

For the recipe... When I found the mix for couscous spice I quickly realised that I already had all the needed spices on my rack. But here items, like liquid smoke and molasse are totally unknown to my l33t c00k1ng sk1llz. Will dig deeper on that subject.

Go to the cake cooking section of your supermarket...they sell it in little tubes in that area.
