Hmmm, is shochu really a good "low-alcohol" alternative? :cry2:

If shochu is sipped as a spirit, at 25% ABV, it's definitely a less potent alternative than standards like whiskey (usually at 40% ABV).

However, I've seen people drink it more like it were sake, wine or a standard mixed drink/Highball... which certainly is not "low-alcohol" on an absolute level.

A lot of people do sip the better shochus on the rocks but pounding the cheap shit with low quality mixers at the bonenkai nomihodai is certainly asking for a hangover. Anyway, it doesn't matter what you're drinking. If you have too much of it, you'll get sick.

If you need alcohol to enjoy something... Maybe you are not doing something enjoyable...

But yea... Whatching the naked lunch shitfaced drunk was sort of memorable...

We have plenty of fun without the alcohol. We drink the alcohol so we don't so much notice the fun being spoiled by annoying people who show up.

Drinking the alcohol is the fun.

Yes. I drink quite often but not as much as before... And I can tell you that my fun level has dropped significantly due to the lack of booze.

Ahem. This is not Anglo culture my continental friend. A bout of binge drinking is the enjoyable bit of the whole event - no matter what it is. Being very drunk in public does not, in itself, make a person a misdemeanant. Drinking far too much of a Friday night is an important rite of passage.
It is a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.

Totally agree,

Jefferies is always good for a laugh. Kind of in that Doug Stanhope vein of comedy.
