Russell wrote:Maybe just a stupid comment, since I don't live in Tokyo and all that, but isn't it an option to live in a weekly mansion for the first month of your stay and store your guitars at your work?

It gives you more time to explore all options on where to live the rest of your stay.

Just sayin'
All my stuff will be in storage anyway for the first month or so and yes I will be in a business hotel for that time.
But my company has put a sort of rush on all the documents I must prepare including the housing doc. I just thought I would prepare myself
with some info.. Just wanted to wrap my head around it all.

It is about 5 Km or one hour away in the unlikely event that you are forced to walk. Zombie barricades may make that distance and time longer.

Where it is sort of difficult is that you put up conditions like Ebisu (9 minutes on Yamanote line) is OK but Yoyogi (17 minutes on the same Yamanote line) is not. But you will tolerate a couple of hours in LA traffic...

I think after you are settled and have been here for a month or two, you will kick yourself for some of the questions you have asked! We will all be able to laugh about it, though.

As I said before I've sort of lost my bearings on distance/time from location to location so I appreciate the patience and helpful suggestions. You know, I arrived at the ebisu good yoyogi bad idea based on the previous thread where the zomb apoc was invoked in addition to some of my japanese friends suggestions and or discriminations "yeah yoyogi is nice but far".. Not that I know from here.. Yeah wagyl I agree with you.. I have lived in japan for short stays, two 2 mo stays on separate occasions, as well as a a handful of 10 day stays amounting to about 6 months overall.. clearly not fucked enough but an idea.. I will indeed laugh at this as I have laughed at my much older posts.. Once I have settled in and find myself living in kichijoji we can all go out for a pint or two.. I'm buying. Oh and 1-2 hours crawling along in los angeles traffic confined in my car with a coffee in my hand, singing at the top of my lungs along with some led zeppelin blaring on the radio... It kinda makes it bareable.. 20 min standing in a squished train with some guy sneezing on my neck..... You know there's a song all about it.

The other passengers will appreciate your rendition of Led Zeppelin. Let rip! Just make sure that your commute is long enough to get to the end of the track. At the very least it will be a sure way to get you some space around you on the train.

Also, it may pay to look at the other posts by the person who posted about the zombies, and people's reactions to his posts. There are a few posts to choose from. Anecdotally, I haven't suffered a zombie attack all the time I have been here.

I can second that.

Don't worry about zombies.

Vampires, on the other hand...

Crikey - you want to talk far.. kichijoji is far dude. It takes more than an hour to drive there from Yoyogi - mainly due to shitty traffic down Inokashira dori. On the express from Shinjuku it is 20 minutes or so. That is the chuo-sen one of the fastest expresses in Tokyo-to.

But if you are shouting the beers, don't tell Greji as he is all about the free drinks.. (nah I lie - he is always buying when he comes out)

Granted it is lovely place - like a whole different culture and attitude. The park is stunning.

This reminds me of a sunday afternoon when I was riding between Akihabara and Kinshicho. Some otaku guy was singing at the top of his lungs to whatever music he was destroying his eardrums with much to the bemusement and amusement of the passengers. Everyone went from uncomfortable to allowing themselves to audibly chuckle at this guy seemingly oblivious to his audience. I laughed too and turning to a seated older couple, dressed quite sharply, I commented something akin to "This guy! Amirite?!" The woman looked forward with a dreamy quite stare.. The man looked at me like a stone statue.. I then looked down and noticed the tips of his pinkies were missing... I decided that the otaku was no longer a laughing matter.. Fun station kinshicho..
