Joint Banking?

Postby Big Booger » Tue Aug 23, 2005 6:02 pm

Is it possible to open up a joint-banking account in Japan? One where a husband or wife have mutal access? I am just curious.

And why would you want to do that?
Having your significant other to have full access to your account is a scary thought.

We would actually keep our separate accounts that we already have. I am basically wanting to setup an emergency/savings fund that I and my wife will be contributing to. I want us both to be able to access it in case of emergency.

I'm pretty sure you can; a colleague set up a joint account with her husband. I think they both had to be there to open it but each received a card.

I know that Sumitomo won't open an account with two names, but the one-name account can be issued two cards; one for the husband and wife.

I also know a husband who auto-furikomis a set amount of money into his wife's account every month.. He deposits big loads into his wife's account.. but only once a month.. He, he, he.. :D

I had a joint account once with the wife that was only to be used in emergencies. This caused some problems though because she did not think that 2AM in Kabukichou and low on cash was an emergency (City bank cash machines also work 24/7).

Kabukicho at 2am is an emergency..

Most conbinis have 24 hour ATMs now... Great for picking up a snack and some cash for the taxi ride home.

Yeah, thank god. In the good 'ol days had to sit out in front of the station until the trains start to run (live in the burbs).

Only at Tokyo, Kanagawa, Chiba combinis.

I tried to get cash once at a combini in Hiroshima and the store clerks were like wtf you smoking? FGs in Tokyo are more blessed.
