Plant Shops (Online)

Postby 6810 » Mon May 15, 2006 1:34 pm

And furthermore (nothing to do with home loans).

Does any one know of particularly good plant shops selling online in Japan?

Why?

I've been digging on South Indian cooking here at home recently and I used to dig on it back in Oz. THe thing is, in Oz, curry leaf trees, for one reason or another were actually fairly common. Often, people would have one in their garden and not even know it! SO there was always a fresh supply.

Those who have cooked using curry leaves know how valuable they are, especially in south indian style cooking. Buying them dried is out of the questions, since dried leaves have almost no flavour/aroma.

So, any help? Good, diverse online plant shops? I don't care if they sell seed or cuttings... let me know!

It seems that is difficult to find curry leaves (or curry patta, as it is called in Hindi) in Japan. The only place I know of which uses curry leaves in sambhar is a south Indian Restaurant in Kyobashi called "Dhaba India". I asked the chef where they got the leaves from and he said that they get them shipped from India. Do post back if you are able to find them here.

Oh please this talk of real curry is torture.
Certainly my rice ranch could grow curry leaves (in the greenhouses if necessary). This year I'm smuggling blue potatos in my luggage.

I had a feeling any post with plant or herb in the title might inevitably get rather off track.

I'll keep looking and get back with any results.

ANyone else?

Sorry, I couldn't resist it. I guess it comes with hanging around fire hydrants too long! If you read J-go, you might try here!

I've ordered from them on line before and had good luck and relatively fast delivery although I haven't ordered plants.

They seem to be pretty reliable, except on the baseball field! Don't tell Marty I said that!
