Short term serviced apartments

Postby Cyka UchuuJin » Wed Oct 20, 2010 8:18 pm

I need one from 28th October to 7th November, preferably in the Gotanda/Meguro area. Google turns up loads of them, but as I was a lowly piece of Kansai trash, I don't know Tokyo well enough to pick one.

anyone got suggestions of one? and no, greji, your bed doesn't count. :p

I've used Duplex C's which suited me and they have one right on Shirokane-Takanawa station which is just down from both Meguro & Gotanda. There's also an Oakwood round the corner in Meguro Dori itself, opposite the Miyako Hotel. There are cheaper ones on the Takanawa side of Shinagawa Station which is also close to where you want to be.

Ultimately, it comes down to what you want to pay and what services you need. I just needed internet, bathroom, fridge, washing machine/dryer and a cooking hob but paid extra for some space and privacy. If you start adding in dishwasher, flat screen TV, hi-fi, specific furnishings, housekeeping services and the like, then it can add up to 30% to your bill.

Most serviced apartments take a deposit but don't like giving it all back no matter how clean you leave a place. Getting back 75% seems standard. You can and should haggle over price, though. These guys aren't booming right now and they know the strong yen has crimped foreigner's budgets.

If you are going sight unseen, you might want to arrange with several to confirm the booking only when you've checked the rooms yourself. You could arrange a hotel for one night to give yourself the time to do it. One problem with a lot of serviced apartment locations can be traffic noise.

ta for all this, mulby!! our showroom is at tokyo design centre right off gotanda yamanote line station, so ideally i want to be near there. i'm a pretty basic needs girl, but maybe i'll add housekeeping because i have no time do that and have too much experience in the 'gaijin don't clean properly, no deposit return for you' department.
i've stayed at an oakwood property in bangkok, they're pretty well managed, so i'll check that out as well.

Oakwood and Mori require at least a 30 day deposit so for anything less than that, you might want to check out Asahi Homes (Court Annex). Unfortunately, they only have locations in Roppongi and Akasaka but they should help you out with your needs.

Yes but if you call them and ask, they may have rooms spare to rent for a week. For my wedding, I was able to negotiate short term rentals for rooms at Oakwood for my overseas guests. It all depends on how desperate they are for the cash.

Speak to the general manager rather than the Japanese sales staff as the staff will just follow the "rules" of the minimum 30 day rental. But if they get the green light from the general manager first you will be fine.

On a personal note - Cyka - can we finally catch up for that beer/coffee? We missed each other last time you were in town.

gosh, you are all so helpful. :)

i don't know mori? oakwood listed everything as full, but i will try to phone them directly, since i know the one in bangkok is like that (says 30 day minimum, but allows by the week). have also looked up tokyu stay, but they are full. will try looking up asahi. i am doing the same for osaka, and was no problem booking into a weekly mansion there.

SJ- i told you i need space. sheesh, you are soooo overbearing! stay with you??? next thing you're going to be asking me for is sex.

G-'flop in my crib'?? whereever do you pick up this hipster lingo?

GG-YES!! other than work, i am completely open! do i get to meet GG Jr. as well???

dont believe that. oakwood has been hosting networking events left and right to PR.

I know a few ppl there, they all say that business dropped a bit, but are doing good for the mrkt situation.

Like GG said, speak to the FG, I can give you some names and contact info if needed.

That'd be nice but I was hoping for something more along the lines of having my dishes washed and my toilet scrubbed. That would be hot!

I personally like Mori Bldg better than Oakwood but that's just my preference.

Why do I feel that I'm going to get majorly dissed from October 28? I'd better call the immigration people at the airport............again.........

A few years back, I once managed to swing just 5 day stay at Oakwood in Azabujyuban...I even ended up with 2 bedroom even though I only paid the studio or 1 bed room rate since that's what I booked....I hated to leave...it was much nicer than my normal abode in the US....At the time, I did it through email, so I'm not really sure if I was dealing the local managers or some corporate overlord reservation system.

Ira...travelling under an assumed name. i have foiled your plan...learned it all after the LAST time you called them!

KG...do you have the email address you were mailing with? oakwood would definitely be my preference if i can swing an 11 night stay.

SJ...you want housecleaning too??? i want new shoes then. and some bling. you never pay attention to me and i'm tired of you looking at all the girls on the street. why don't you ever take me anywhere nice for dinner? and pick up those socks off the floor! (wow...i'm a great wife. just like the real thing!)

G...i got yer waiver right here!

SUEyes...No.

I'm afraid I don't, and given that this was a few years back, it is always possible they've shifted their way of doing things since then....I'm pretty sure I did it through oakwood's main site, although it looks like they've also added an asia specific website as well now.
