Doing my ass a favor: Let's talk Washlets

So, on the cheap end, I can spend about 20,000 yen on something like this. This doesn't seem exactly plug & play, b/c the ass-washing feature has to get water.

I'm going to suggest to myself that buying one w/ installation service from Yoyodabashi or the like is probably the best bet. Anyone want to share their experiences (of setting up -- not usage).

Installing a washlet is not a problem provided you have an electric outlet in your john. Mind you, if you have an old electric outlet, you will have to take the outlet cover off to attach the ground wire. Other than that, it is the same as attaching any other toilet seat. It took me 20 minutes to do it.

My ground connection appears to be a wheel thingie, so I'm hoping I don't have to take anything off. Quite small quarters in there, and my head would be down by the can. :/

There's an adaptor thingy that goes in the pipeline that feeds your toilet tank. It's pretty simple.

The ground connection sounds fine. Water. Damn I forgot about that. First turn off the water (duh) and you will see a valve sticking out on the side about halfway up the pipe. Your washlet will have a have a plastic pipe that attaches to the control panel. The pipe has an idiot-proof clamp. Attach the clamp to the valve.

I installed this at my daughters flat last year.
Took about an hour.
Make sure the hose supplied by the manufacturer is long enough to reach from the tank to the connection on the bowl.

I'm not totally retarded yet so I'm sure I can do this. I assume if I buy one new, it will have all the shit I need (tools, clamps, etc.). Only variable will be turning off the water which I assume is somewhere on the outside of my place. Time to call the kanri gaisha.

Yep, it was simple 20 minute job for me too since my toilet room has a modern ground fault outlet.

Tip: Buy 200 yen roll of teflon tape to seal the threads[color="Silver"] (wrap clockwise just one layer) [/color]of the water supply to the toilet's squirting mechanism, otherwise there is a chance for "weeping" from the threads of the new connection.

Perhaps you have assumed that incorrectly.
Almost all Japanese toilets had a cut-off valve next to the toilet. Most commonly as shown in the drawing, you have to turn a screw (that is, there is no handle on the cut-off valve, just a screw).

Well, I don't go around cleaning that little spray head. That is supposed to be self-cleaning isn't it? (it isn't)

And now I think of it, I got this trauma in my first months in Japan when I tried to flush the toilet and got sprayed on my stomach when I pushed the wrong buttons. That certainly was a stimulus to learn Kanji, but I still hate those washlets.
