Okay, as a circumcised American male who's elected to not have his haafu son circumcised, is there anything special I need to know so I can teach my kid how to take care of that peculiar thing? What the fuck do y'all do with the foreskin? I guess you have to keep it clean, but I've got questions about very practical things - when you piss at a urinal do you pull the hood back before you pee? (Is this why the floor in front of Japanese urinals is always 2 inches piss deep?).

Speaking purely personally, I cannot recall ever receiving any parental guidance viz the functionality of something which is part of the standard equipment, I mean one just whips it out and points in the correct direction, it's not like there's some kind of cover which has to be elaborately removed or anything.

Not sure how old your little guy is, but the main thing is to not try to push it back until he is older than 5. Or not even at all.

I did some research when my little guy was born - he is 2.5years now - and we decided against the cut and shut too.

He will need to be encouraged to use good personal hygiene when he reaches puberty age and take care to clean all the nooks and crannies during the daily shower but that kinda goes without saying.

But otherwise, I have no idea. But I am sure you could get some good info from google.

Don't force it back as you can tear the delicate membranes and at 2.5 he is kinda too young to pee standing up. Just let him sit for a while until he can get the first part sorted before you add an additional degree of difficulty.

Well, the standing up thing is for when we're outside (at home we use the Anpanman training seat, it's real sweet). It's a pain to strip him down and clean the toilet so he can sit and pee when we're at the mall -- I want to introduce him to one of the great joys and conveniences of being a man, the ability to take a leak without having to touch anything gross.

He's done well standing up so far -- but the stream trajectory is a little erratic. I know I was peeing standing up at that age, but I didn't have to deal with the foreskin. I've never forced it back but shouldn't it pull back enough to uncover the head and get a clear shot?

In all seriousness, thinking back (and it's been a couple of decades or more) I don't remember being able to pull it back until around the onset of puberty, but also remember being scared to try. On the other hand I don't remember any sprinkler effect prior to that. I guess there might be different foreskin types. Not something I've ever really thought much about.

I had a friend who snipped her son shortly after birth. There are doctors (mostly the foreign ones) who will do it but it isn't covered by health insurance.

I have a good friend (an adult) who is kinda pissed at his parents for snipping him as a boy. He feels he should have been consulted as it is such a personal decision and tantamount to child abuse. He was very pleased that we didn't snip our kid but I didn't have the heart to tell him that we were not making a political statement but it was more just modern medical practices vs the common practice when he was a boy.

But then as I do not have one, I can't really get into this debate other than as a mother of a boy. You guys need to hash this one out for yourselves.

Honey... both my boys pee standing up and it makes life much difficult for the mum or other females in the house... but for the sake of getting him used to peeing in a urinal (you know what it is like having to wait for a stall in a super packed public bathroom), get 'em used to peeing like a big boy.

nope... I had to take both my boys to Tokyo Medical and Surgical clinic. Not to mention, a circumcision is a surgery and is not covered by NHI.

cost is about JPY35,000 and jumps up if done after the boy is older than 3 months.

For the mums or weak hearted, I suggest that you go outside the building when the process is underway... this will be the first time you hear your boy scream in fear and pain. I will leave out the details so you don't have the fucked image of what happens in the process... I was there for both my boys in the room.

Many women's public toilets have mini urinals for small boys to use - definitely most train stations and department stores have this. Usually in the public washbasin area, but still it makes life easier than trying to get them up on a seat or over the seat to pee.

Seriously though, had that conversation with enough lemurs here to believe they prefer cut to uncut. Not just looks but also for hygienic reasons.

I can sympathize to an extent but I wouldn't make an issue out of it. I was cut and don't feel any kind of animosity toward my parents for making the decision for me. Interesting you brought up the whole gay thing. I was having a conversation with a gay buddy of mine and he was saying that if he ever had a son then he would insist on being cut and shut. He claims his motivation was due to the (very very minimal) risk of penile cancer that is slightly higher in uncut men.

Personally, I thought his motivation was for cosmetic reasons but he just didn't want to admit it.
