Getting rid of NTT Flets

Postby matsuki » Tue May 12, 2015 10:46 am

So the Oyasan at my apt is now paying for free cable and free cable net connection through J-com. Got everything hooked up last week, but I've been calling all day, every day to cancel the NTT Flets connection...to no avail. Tried a few different numbers and they keep sending me back to the same number that I can't get a hold of anyone at. They prorate it so for everyday you can't cancel, it costs you. The J-com dude said "don't let them send someone out to uninstall the modem....they'll charge you for every day you're connected and then some sort of uninstall service fee.....yet if you say you've already uninstalled the modem and just need to send it in, they'll cancel the service right away send you a chakubarai bag to return it in." Anyone have any suggestions? I'm pretty close to making an appearance at one of their offices to smash them in the face with the modem...

I`d take the modem along with any contract paperwork you might have to one of their offices. They will charge you a huge amount if you haven`t had it for the minimum two years, so you will want the papaerwork to show the date in installation.

Well past the minimum 2 years so no worries there....just need this shit processed. If I can't get ahold of someone tonight, I guess I'll do that.

So I went in person expecting to make a scene....there were two other guys there already doing that so when I made three and the "hora hora hora kare mo!" began, the flowchart robot manager caved in and sent underling after underling out to "moushiwakegozaimasen" us and take copies of our info and the modems from us. Talk about fucked....

The only minor little problem I had with NTT West is that some beknighted soul in the organization sold my address to spammers. I dumped those bastards ages ago.

Case-by-case most strongly applies to the service industry, methinks.

True enough, but when they had the temerity to deny it and fix the problem I really got pissed. Interestingly (and probably because of it) I had absolutely no problems getting rid Fritz.

I changed from NTT East to AU last year, I found the humanoid on NTT's phone support line extremely helpful. So much so that I almost regretted the change for a measly saving of 2000 yen/mth. They speak England-go, unlike Au who abandoned phone support for mortals some time ago.

Seems like...but considering my only reason for the switch is I got a free alternative, making it that difficult to get the switch handled has pretty much guaranteed that I will never use NTT for net again. Not exactly a winning strategy. I still have docomo as my keitai carrier and I'm happy with that but cable vs their "Flets" service is no contest performance-wise...and cheaper.

Problem is, I couldn't get a humanoid on the "correct" line. After 45mins on hold (and BTW, it's a toll number so no idea how much that cost) I still couldn't get someone, that is sagi-level fucked. After that experience, I called several other numbers and got stonewalled...."you have to use that number, I can't help you." Guy I know is apparently going through the same thing and was able to get through after about 50mins. He said he's going the throw a brick or rock in with the modem when he gets that chakubarai return packaging.

I just canceled my Interweb service with So-net au hikari and it couldn't have been easier. I figure 10:30 on a Saturday morning is probably a busy time for them but I got straight through to a customer service rep with no wait and was only on hold once for maybe 30 seconds while he looked up my file. He told me I'd be getting a pack from KDDI in a few days to mail the equipment back. Sure he politely asked me why I was canceling and offered discounted service if I stayed, but wasn't pushy at all. The whole call only took 8 mins but it was so smooth it felt like 3.

I guess the moral of the story is fuck NTT. But we already knew that.
