Huh? Japan rejected US-occupation-mandated Daylight Saving Time because salarymen could not start their drinking on company money until after it is dark.

On a similar note, I can't remember which book suggested it (possibly embracing defeat by dower), but it had the tone that early post war Japan was so wretched, J folks were against anything that seemed to extend the day.
