Buck Owens in Japan

[floatr]Image[/floatr]Country legend Buck Owens has already appeared on the FG forums in the "Japan in Rock & Pop Lyrics" thread with his song "Made in Japan". He died just over a month ago and a recent obituary (no link) noted that the Japan album pictured right is regarded as a career high point for the singer. It was taken from a show at the Kosei Nenkin Hall, Tokyo in 1967 and is thought to be the first live country album recorded outside America. Between songs, Owens relied on local MC Tetsuo "Ted" Otsuka to translate his commentary to the audience and he composed the instrumental "Tokyo Polka" for the tour which proved to be a favourite.

I bet that red bridge picture was taken at the approach of Kamakura's main shrine, Tsurugaoka Hachimangu.

I've meet Buck Owens as a kid several times as my Mom used to do backback singing for Buck's producer, Ken Nelson. Buck was a real nice guy to me as kid hanging around the studio-- he always slipped a 5 buck bill in my pocket at the end of recording session!

Buck makes a concession to his Japanese audience at the beginning of this audio clip:

Also, someone has reuploaded a recording of his hit song "Made In Japan":

We all need to lean this line dancing choreography for the next FG party:

Is that a mosque in the background?
