Meet 19-year old Ayano Kitami who has just released "Happy - The Yakitori Song" as her debut CD. She has been adopted by the National Yakitori Council who are convinced that their restaurants need a sunny image and more female customers.. She'll be doing a number of promotional events in Akihabara so clearly they are keen to break out of the sad, single male market. No word as to whether she will turn out in the same outfit as for her last DVD promotion.

Fukushima Town Sets New Yakitori Record

The town of Kawamata in Fukushima Prefecture, known for Japanese game fowl, set a new yakitori record of 12 meters and 27 centimeters in length on Saturday.

The new record using about a dozen game fowl eclipsed the previous record of 11 meters and 7 cm set only Aug. 14 by the town of Hidakagawa in Wakayama Prefecture, Japan's largest producer of the famed Bincho charcoal.

Sixth-grade students from Kawamataminami Elementary School produced a yakitori running 11 meters and 60 cm in the morning, and local residents and other participants extended it to the all-time high, which was attested by a judge from a national yakitori association.

It took about 50 minutes for the participants to fully prepare the yakitori dish.
