Big Beat, the label behind the Japanese Group Sounds compilation "GS I Love You" (and it's follow-up), have turned their attention to girl singers with their newest release. "Nippon Girls Japanese Pop, Beat And Bossa Nova 1966-70" is curated by Sheila Burgel, who runs a website dedicated to girl-powered pop called Cha Cha Charming. The selections are not the best known songs of any of the singers, being mainly chosen for their tempos and arrangements. Here's "Doyou No Yoru Nanika Ga Okiru" by Jun Mayuzumi (audio only):
One of the singers on the compilation is Nana Kinomi. While searching for her on YouTube, I came across this clip from 1982 where she appears with Tamori and Dan Shinya, who does a few impressions. You'd be forgiven for thinking that the programme might be sponsored by Japan Tobacco.
