Lost in transit

Postby legion » Thu Jul 31, 2014 5:56 am

Flew KLM Tokyo to Amsterdam to Newcastle , flight was delayed an hour at Narita, due to arriving late cos of weather, these things happen. Meant we only had 30 mins to make our connection at Ams, not fun with tired children, little legs and a lot of airport to cover.
We arrived in Newcastle OK , but our bags didn't, no doubt due to the tight turn around. These things happen. However, despite KLM assuring us the bags would be delivered by 3PM, the delivery company didn't pick them up til 5.30 but can't deliver them until 10AM tomorrow because they have no drivers.

I suspect the insidious influence of procurement. For those of you who do not encounter this in your jobs, procurement stems from consultants who tell service providers they can shave 10% of costs of vendors every year. In order to win or keep business vendors submit fantasy estimates they can't keep to without trimming service. So in this case KLM has opted for a cheap delivery service who cannot fill their side of the deal.

The result is my kids haven't got their clean clothes or pyjamas, and I have listen to my parents telling me how to complain to the poor guys put in the firing line.

So while we all know things don't always go smoothly, always oppose the pressure to opt for cheaper over better. KLM is a good airline, but they have just scored poorly because of poor management's choices. Our esteemed Dutch members, please remind your national carrier that they have great routes for us Northerners, don't make me go back to wanky Virgin or Snooty BA, and transit via Heathrow, which I fucking hate.

Measured rant over. I'm sure KLM will quake in the face of the power of the fg

You're joking ?

RATP means Regie Autonome des transport Parisiens, "Regie" imply partial state control and ownership, the "controle" part being tamed by the "autonomous" title...

The informal meaning being "rentre avec tes pieds" as in "go back home by foot"(since we are on strike).

(Renault when stolen by De Gaulle became "RNUR" Regie Nationnale des Usines Renault until the partial privatisation to help with the -failed- Renault Volvo automobile alliance. Renault now being the 4th worldwide automotive group and Volvo car a part of a Chinese meatpacking sweatshop, or something )

Fuuuuuck me...

Not joking:

The logo circle with wavy line looking like a woman face actually represent Paris with a stylized flow of the river Seine...

So... The french took London where the kraut failed during the blitz... (At least a bit)

(It's the kind of bullshit making no sense that make me want to isolate even more from the rest of this planet... The BigT is still way to cosmopolite and connected... I want to go in a village where amazon prime overnight deliveries take up to two weeks and are made door to door by boat... Or goat...)

The patrie is stretching out to you, Coligny, building bases ready to take you home.

Look at who runs this Seoul metro line: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seoul_Subway_Line_9

Nope... the ultimate ironic fail of Thatcherism: the country's privatised, former public infrastructure is now partly in the hands of foreign public infrastructure companies.

If they wanted an ex-Fascist state organisation to make the trains run on time, they should have awarded the contract to Ferrovie dello Stato Italiane/Trenitalia.

For Brits, who are trying to fly home over the holidays:

Are we facing a Christmas of Discontent?

Beebs wrote:With commuters on Southern rail services facing yet another day of strikes, and Crown Post Office workers pushing ahead with walkouts, are we facing a Christmas of Discontent?

About 1,500 check-in staff, baggage handlers and cargo crew at a number of UK airports have also called a 48-hour strike from 23 December in a pay row.

In addition, some cabin crew at British Airways have called walkouts, while Argos delivery drivers this week suspended a strike at the eleventh hour.

Well, it is reminiscent of the good old days before Britain joined the EU, so we really shouldn't be surprised.

It won't be long before they're building Austin Allegros again at this rate...

Fascinating statistical fact: of my paternal grandmother's six grandchildren, 3 have permanently emigrated to foreign climes.

Is that what you call a hard Brexit, a soft Brexit, a grey Brexit, or a Red White and Blue Brexit?

I suppose in your case it is a Red and White Brexit.

Basically you keep fucking people over until they take action, then the media vilifies them for doing so without actually looking at why we ended up in this sorry state.

Nicely done. I also smell an increased corporate enthusiasm for procurement lately in both Canada and Japan, and I don't mean the rent by the hour type. I imagine that the evasion of responsibility aspect must appeal to the bounded minds of the faceless corproate middlings.
Hope the kids got their PJs and clean gonch.
