A segment on NTV's 24 hour marathon featured a tub of boiling water where contestants competed to see who could stay in the longest. About 1:40 seconds into the clip, however, one guy gets carried away and accidentally demonstrates that the water is not actually hot at all until he is reminded and jumps out exclaiming "Atsui!". The other presenters then gamely try to restore the charade.

I wonder how much trouble he got in and if it will effect his future in the business?

I had a non-Japanese friend who appeared on several shows and commercials and told me that a lot of the "accidental" meetings and various situations and such on Japanese TV are fake or rigged.

There seems to be a trend recently for a lot of the performers to sort of make a joke of the fact that the stuff is faked (like Downtown's recent "wake up call itazura" skit and such) but it looks like this guy really just screwed up.

I think pretty much all of it is faked. Back when Sanma's Karakuri Super Terebi had their "Funniest English" segment, they tried doing a "Funniest Japanese" bit with foreigners "on the street" giving their stories in mangled Japanese, and I got to do it once. they held auditions where they asked people to describe some type of experience in writing and spoken to see how funny they could be, then picked the ones they liked to tape the next day. When I arrived for the filming, they gave me a script with my original story plus a few new punchline mistakes added in. They also told me to make my accent as 'gaijin-poi' and beginner-level as possible, but still gave me jokes using vocabulary I'd never heard before.

Got to meet Thane Camus, though. Nice guy.

Yeah, I was on a fake-ass TV show here a few years ago. It was a New Years special and a small segment was "let's find some gaijin on the street and find out what they're up to". The whole thing was planned several months in advance and I was told to just sit and wait on this particular bench for a while until the two presenters* (see pic below, you may recognize this couple!) came and 'found' me.

All in all it was a bit of fun. Got some cash for it, a big box of fruit (about 4 kgs) a whole fish (delivered by refrigerated takkubin) and some other stuff (tickets I think).

I had a friend that was on that "whats in the FGs fridge", the producers rock up and clean out the fridge and load up chock full of all sorts of shit my friend told them "Ive never eaten that" and they just ignored her.

They off course ignore her and depending on where you are from they fill the fridge according to their imagination!

After the show is shot they clear it all out.

Love to see a TV station anywhere do that to Japanese (say fill the TV with whale or raw salmon) and see the japanese (over)reaction!
