I love that scene, but there's a lighter take on the same theme a bit later. I think it's Shimura, he meets another ronin and asks him, "Are you any good?" He replies, "Well, I'm pretty good, but there's always someone better. So I run away a lot."

Is it supposed to be a comedy ?
I broke a mirror this morning, which means I should be getting 7 years of bad luck - but my lawyer says he can get me 5.
