...The three filmmakers set up a meeting with Daniel Silver, who handles development for ESPN's film division. Silver was familiar with an independent movie Jenks and Pettigrew made. Valentine had a previous relationship with ESPN as an analyst for "Baseball Tonight" after he left the New York Mets. "For me it never turned out to be about their age because I knew what kind of work they could do," Silver said. "And I knew Bobby was a great character. It came down to am I going to want to watch this character for 90 minutes or two hours? It's a documentary, there's no script." Valentine was brought to the meeting for moral support. He said he was asked one question. "I sat there and all they wanted to know was whether I would give the guys complete access," Valentine said. "The idea was good because so many people and my friends haven't been able to come out here and wonder what it's all about. I felt it was a story whose time it was to tell."
