Awesome car.

edit: Hey, isn't this the very first time Japan built a properly insane hypercar? I'm not talking about Supras, V6 NSXes or I6/V6 Skylines or any of that restrained shit, but something properly brutal with like a million horsepower straight out of the factory.

Not impressed at all. It's a complete failure at that price point. Something is seriously wrong with the fundamental design of the car if all of those technological goodies and complete lack of compromise resulted in car with no better performance than many other cars that cost a fraction of the price. Remember, Toyota is still not making a profit at that ridiculous price point.

That doesn't sound like an engineer's wet-dream to me, it sounds like an engineer's worst nightmare.

I watched the show a few days ago.

Clarkson: is it faster than the GTR?
Hamster boy: um.. no

They basically said it is pointless to pay that much money for a lexus when you can have a lambo, ferrari, aston, or any other car in that league for half the price. I agree.

The target market for this car are not people who care about price. As a percentage of net worth, $400k for a billionaire is the same as $20 is if your net worth is $50k.

I'm not interested in buying an LFA (which is good 'cause I don't have $400k to spare for one) but as a certifiable car nut it is great to see companies spending money on performance research.

As the video implies, it's an engineering endeavor...much like the Bugatti Veyron...which is also apparently sold without a profit in mind. Mind you I'm not comparing the two cars on performance numbers.

Don't think people want to buy $500,000 Lexuses when they can buy Ferraris for half that... More prestige, same performance.

Awesome car though. Just needs a different badge.

Sort of how like people don't want to buy $100,000 Hondas... The GT-R has a history of 40 years, so people will buy a $150,000 Nissan. I'm almost surprised Honda had the balls to keep the S-2000 under their marquis...but it was only a $35,000 car.

OTOH, Toyota did have a $100,000 car...

I understand why it was built. I was talking about who will buy them and why the price is of no importance.

I got your point. People in the market for a 500,000 dollar vehicle are obviously breathing rarefied air...price vs. performance isn't an issue when you got several hundred million or a billion under the mattress.

The market is already somewhat clogged with supercars, Veyron, new mercedes SLS (ugly as sin but whatever), Murcielago, Audi R8, Nissan GTR, Koenigsegg.

Branding it as a Lexus is ridiculous... Lexus still remains the brand that people buy, when they have money, but not enough for a Krauter. Marketed as a track oriented TRD car (like the R8 LM)... maybe...

And she's not even beautifull, she got the back of an R8, the front of a gumpert Apollo, and some part of Fairlady 350Z inbetween...

Add the pricetag, the unintended accelerashiun syndrom from toyota/lexus, and the fact she's not available as AWD station wagon and i'm out...

Still waiting impatiently for the Nissan Leaf instead...

Don't know for the rest of Yurop... but at least in france it's bad enough that it would be nearly unthinkable... The actual brand on the rise is "Dacia". owned by Renault it's a Romanian brand that make cars with Renault discarded tooling. They were supposed to sell only in 3rd world countries but had to make special models with airbags to sell in France because they are just a bit more expensive than second hand and come with manufacturer warranty.

Mainichi: Orders no longer being taken for wildly popular Lexus LFA
Toyota Motor Corp. has announced it has stopped accepting reservations in Japan for its Lexus LFA sports car, after domestic orders nearly caught up to the number of units to be sold worldwide. The automaker has a global sales target of 500, but pre-orders for domestic sales (165 units) have already reached about 500. Although the pre-order deadline was initially set for late March, the company stopped accepting orders on Wednesday due to the flood of reservations. Purchasers will be chosen by lottery by April. The 4.8-liter, V10 560-h.p. LFA is currently priced at 37.5 million yen, making it the most expensive Japanese car on the market. The LFA, unveiled at the Tokyo Motor Show in October last year, will go into production in December this year. Orders for global sales will be available as scheduled. Toyota Motor also plans to sell an upgraded LFA model some time between 2011 and 2012.

there are quite a few Euros who love the GTR, so it's plenty possible that the very rich ones might for this, as it does come across as a carbon fibre Gtr ...

Accessorizing the LFA thusly might win over the crowd who are suspicious about value for money.

Hybrid? what????????

Fast car = lots of power + light car.

The prius battery weighs about 175kg and ones in the HH/RX400H are even heavier than that. The generator also ads weight.

So much good/bad in one...hopefully they lose the bad on the production model.
