We saw an ambulance heading that way (other side of the highway) as I was trying to explain to my buddy how to call so decided not to. (I wasn't about the fumble with my phone in those conditions and as Coligny pointed out, terrible place to try and stop)

Nice guys come last eh? I would like to think I would have gone back and parked with the emergency lights on. Called an ambulance, let off that flare thing, placed a triangle if I had one and gone to see if I could help or give first aid to anyone injured. Or at least re-assure them that help was on the way. The fact it was raining shouldn't really have changed any of that.

But hey, perhaps I am overly idealist and perhaps if I were actually presented with the situation I would just drive on. I like to think my first aid training would have kicked in though.

I've stopped and helped people who have flipped, wrecked, ran their car's into a ditch before. This was quite different....

On the highway, near pitch black, no lights, heavy rain, shit visibility with headlights, no center shoulder, on a curve...basically a deathtrap scenario, asking for more carnage. Even if I could have pulled over relatively close on the outer shoulder, playing frogger to get to the crash with those conditions is suicide. Had I attempted to go back, we're also talking XX km to the next exit, get back on the other direction for xx km til the next exit after passing the crash, then exit/re-enter, and attempt to find the crash without running into the vehicle or pieces. at least 15-25 minutes and we saw an ambulance that was likely heading to it so I don't think getting involved would have helped any.

I tried googling it, don't see any news on it so maybe that's a good thing? Was after 那須 (probably still in Tochigi?) heading to Tokyo.
