"Shibuya" is a new film, based on a screenplay by Shinya Fujiwara, which opens this week. Fujiwara says on his blog that the film is a low budget affair, shot in about a week, which looks at the life of some girls who hang around the area. I haven't seen it but it looks like it might make an interesting companion piece to the 1997 film "Bounce Ko Gals" by director Masato Harada. If you haven't caught that film then I recommend you try to find it. It looks at the lives of girls in Shibuya during a time when enjo kosai was at its peak. It doesn't aim to be a docudrama but it captures the mood of the time very well. If "Shibuya" can do the same over a decade later then it will be worth seeing.
