Rififi à Tokyo

Postby Mulboyne » Sat May 15, 2010 4:03 pm

[YT]tyjIfSVAXVk[/YT]

While looking up some details about Keiko Kishi to include here, I came across the fact that she appeared in "Rififi à Tokyo". Following the success of 1955's "Du rififi chez les hommes", which is often credited with establishing the heist film genre, other works by pulp author Auguste Le Breton were considered for the movie treatment. Japan was still a fashionable location for filming in the early sixties, what with the Olympics coming up, so "Rififi à Tokyo" got the green light. Kishi was an obvious choice for a part given her star status and record of international work. Fortunately for us, someone posted the trailer for this film a few weeks ago on YouTube and you can see it above. Another clip shows location sequences from the film and that's shown below.

Unfortunately, the first video was removed from Youtube. Trying to re-locate it (which failed), I noticed that there are actually more videos of that era on Youtube, like this:

I especially like the shot at 0:57. Dental care was even worse then than now. LOL.

Great find. But can anybody tell me the name of the tune playing in the soundtrack? It is haunting me as it is used on Baby TV cable channel all the time but with English lyrics. I suspected it was a Japanese tune though.

I have Baby TV running in the background when I am trying to subdue GomiNo1Son while cooking dinner and the tunes tend to stick in my head all day. [/color]

Honestly... Try Weird Al Yankovic... It's a total blast for babees... especially his Poodle Hat album... (Hardware Store, Angry White Boy Polka, Genius in France...)...

Rammstein will do too... (Sehnsucht or the "live Aus Berlin")

I tried to find your Sakura music, but the closest I could get to the soundtrack is this:

That is still significantly different...

It is the second one - it is on baby TV but with English lyrics. It is something like "Mother crow, why are you so sad?"
And talks about her kids across a mountain and she misses them. It is a lovely tune - very haunting and very Japanese.

There is another one about colours of the leaves and painting them on a white kimono.

Sad that my culture is coming from baby TV.
