Cultural Icon Creator Is No More

Postby Mulboyne » Fri Oct 01, 2010 8:12 am

One fall-out of the bankruptcy of consumer lender Takefuji is that Chuo Senko, the advertising agency which handled its campaigns, has also just failed. Here's their most (in)famous creation, the Takefuji dancers:

Damn, I remember the later two, but I had no idea they went back that far.

Good riddance to a one-note company, and an unlamented competitor.

The Takefuji girls were dasai back when the CMs were initially aired, that was part of the charm, I guess. Still, that song is one of the only songs I've ever done at kareoke, and it tends to have a very odd ambulatory stimulating effect on any drunk J-girls in attendance....bring your video camera.

Watching those made me wanna go borrow some cash. I wonder if the skyhigh interest could include a dancer?

Man, your English is worse than Coligny's. Did you immigrate to the US from Mexico?

No........ but I grew up with Mexicans and never "really" learned Spanish and ended up with broken English and an accent. Thank god I am really good at math.

Yes and no, it's partially a necessity, mominlaw understand much better lolcat english than normal english. So i took the habit of tweaking my sentences in order to reduce as much as possible the number of times i have to reformulate my ideas.

Same goes for my accent. I can either take a normal british-english accent or a more american accent... but to turn on a girl, nothing works better than the purposefully broken french accent. (usually negatively referenced as "accent de l'education nationnale" or in english, "public highschool accent")

Definitely. They were never anything other than cheesy. They aired so many times, everyone knew that damn song and the dancers so they became a shared experience, and the butt of more than a few jokes and parodies. From an advertising point of view, that probably wasn't such a bad result.

When I first arrived in Japan and saw hoardings advertising "Yen Shop", I was quite pleased there seemed to be so many foreign currency exchange bureaus around. I soon discovered that task required a 30 minute wait in a limited number of bank branches.
