A Future With No Consumption Tax

Postby Mulboyne » Tue Nov 16, 2010 7:02 pm

I've recently discovered that the Tax Agency has its own YouTube channel, with some curious contributions. Above is "Marin & Yamato's Freaky Sunday". It's a 17 minute cartoon where two children are shown a shocking, dystopian vision of the broken future which results when no-one pays consumption tax. A baby dies in a house fire and their fireman father falls into a depression and sees his salary cut. On the streets, the law of the jungle prevails with local thugs charging tolls to cross roads while regular accidents claim lives because no-one maintains the traffic lights. Parks are sold off, bridges fall into disrepair and you have to pay the police directly if you want any help.

Actually, I would appreciate Japanese police and civil servants openly accepting bribes.

As it is now, they just BEHAVE (especially the police) as if they're waiting for a bribe;
"Can't be helped."
"It's difficult."
"You don't really want to file a domestic abuse report, there's no proof!"
"The death was obviously a suicide."
But you'd probably get thrown in jail if you tried to actually GIVE them a bribe to merely do their fucking job.
Worst of both worlds.

Now, if you could get the J cops to actually do an autopsy, or actually arrest a stalker, with an envelope filled with a reasonable amount of ichi-man-en notes, there would be a lot more bad people in jail.

This is indeed dystopian...they're blaming the Japanese for their own problems instead of saying it's the fault of the gaijin.
