Resident Return Visa to Australia.

Postby Useless Union » Thu Sep 15, 2016 9:32 pm

My wife first applied for a permanent visa and we made a couple of trips back to Australia within the five year time frame, part of the condition of her visa. She did not live in Australia for two years out of the five and neither did she become a citizen.

She then applied for a Return Resident Visa which is also for five years. She stills has the permanent visa which allows her to travel as often as she wishes within the validity of the visa while maintaining her status as permanent resident. If she did not apply for this visa before her permanent expire, she would have to go through the whole process again if she wanted a permanent visa.

She just recently applied for her second RRV online except this time she only got a one year visa instead of five years.

She has to be in Australia by a certain date and has to apply for her third RRV in Australia. When she applies for her third visa, will she get one year or three months visa even though she will only spend about two weeks out of the year?
She is married to an Australian and has personal ties to Australia. Her situation has been the same for the last ten years and probably will be the same for the next five or so. Has anybody ever applied for RRV to Australia?

The Canadian authorities are really cracking down on this sort of arrangement, so it wouldn't surprise me if the Australians are too. At least up here, they are seen as residents of convenience who are gaming the system and are a rumbling if trivial political issue, esp. amongst the Angry Andies and Agathas the political parties are so eager to court these days.
Hope it works out.

Australians keep voting fucking idiots into office, resulting in outcomes such as these.
I'm sorry to hear of your plight, Useless Union.
Is there any rumor in the truth that spouse visas in Australia now cost several thousand dollars?

Brits keep doing the same and with the same asinine results. It's getting ridiculous. And anyone who thinks Brexit is going to improve matters, needs a short sharp reality check.

Sorry to hear of your predicament. Completely stupid. I didn't realise Australia and Canada were going the same way.
It is a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.

Farking shit.

(If applying before having any other spouse/partner/really-good-mate-who-is-the-same-sex rights to be in Australia.)

Regarding the fucking idiots: which ones aren't fucking idiots?

Wow, I hope they at least give you a free koala bear (sic) for that.

I am however mystified by the items listed on the "Partner visa" table "Additional applicant charge 18 and over" and "Additional applicant charge under 18", is that some sort of polygamy discount?

Yep, and a bargain if they are underage.

How else are people going to create conspiracy theories about the Government opening the floodgates to Islam?
Especially when you consider that the vast majority of Muslims in the country were born there, and there have been mosques for 130 years.

Speaking seriously, that price will certainly put a dent in the mail order bride industry.

Thanks for posting that.

How is that even justifiable? I suppose we have to find some way to subsidize the tax breaks for the rich, I guess.

Well, you can tell that they have pared the cost down to the absolute bare minimum: after all, they can't even afford to absorb the credit card merchant fees.

I get the impression that the charges are linked to the Consumer Price Index, and will go up periodically. The visa fee calculation tool expressly asks what date you will be making your application.

It's the newer User Pays system, Pay to Play IOW. It seems to be the growing standard in the Anglosphere. Come to think of it, haven't they always charged at Japanese public offices for all those different ward office documents and such? Another way the world is turning Japanese?

Heeeheee. A delightful take on it. The argument is that those who use the services should pay for them. It sounds fair, until you point out you already have paid for it. The sad part is its usually grumbly guvvermint hating plebbiecites that defend it, rather than going with your accurate if cynical take on it. It does seem to be a stealth tax on the middle class, since neither the poor nor the rich live abroad or marry furriners much.
