Work Visas and Komiket

Postby Kaibutsu » Mon Jul 05, 2004 8:29 am

Sometime in the future, after I polish my Japanese and art skills enough, I'd like to try selling some doujinshi at either Natsu Komiket or Fuyu Komiket . Would I need a work visa to sell doujinshi?

Coal to Newcastle? Iceboxes to Eskimos? Doujinshi to Japanese?

Technically you would need a biz visa and for that you would have incorporate, yada, yada.

HOWEVER, most casual sales at fair and flea markets are not inspected or anything. For antique flea markets, the rare gaijin selling ignored and they are not checked. I had a gaijin friend--an Calf. high-school teacher-- who sold "western" funiture like that for years over his 3-month summer vacation without trouble on his tourist visa.

For the Natsu Komiket or Fuyu Komiket fairs, I would not have any idea. Look at the rules homepage. I don't remember seeing anything about having a valid venders licence. Check it first.

The Immigration Cops should get on the ball and look for illegal alien fanboys, hee, hee. However, I have never seen the cops checking at the RobotFairs, ToyCons and Cosplay events that attract foreign riff-raff. Come over a 3 month tourist visa and extend it if need be----Sell up a storm.
