Ebola Reaches Capital of Guinea, Stirring Fears

http://www.nytimes.com/2014/04/02/world ... fears.html

New and Hot for this summer... the pandemic spreading to cities and crossing borders apparently on her own (and not through/corpse patient being transferred for treatment, this time she take the bus by herself like a big girl) For now, Guinea (129), Sierra Leone (8) and Liberia (6). No case of transmission through XBox Live or PSN reported.... YET !!!!!!

So... avoid eating or having sex, with monkeys, bats orhuman roadkills...

Health and safety reminder, the signage would be:

Seems Japan is in a good position to face this threat.

Good hygiene, masks, hand washing, country being an island, and all that.

You say that like if it was a good thing.

Plus, Ebola is not disentry or typhus show little respek please, while lame compared to anthrax because of it's lack of airborn transmissibility, it's still a promising tool against mankind.

And, judging by the yearly pandemic of norovirus here, there is still some hope unless they really go all Madagascar and shut down everything...

Mah, I'm sure they'll be able to contain Ebola just as well as nuclear contamination.

In fact, now I think of it, they could use the same measures.

Like spreading it over the whole country as a kind of solidarity with the small area affected...

Or just bomb the hell out of the infected quarantine area.

Ebola Center in Guinea Closed Because of Threats

An international aid organization suspended operations at its Macenta, Guinea, treatment center for patients with the deadly Ebola virus after workers there received threats.

Community members became agitated and aggressive as they blamed staff at the center for bringing the bleeding disorder to the country, according to a statement today from Sam Taylor, a spokesman for Swiss-based Medecins Sans Frontieres, also known as Doctors Without Borders. The aid group wants to resume activities as soon as possible, he said.

There are at least 143 suspected cases of Ebola in Guinea, and at least 86 people there have died of the incurable disease, the World Health Organization said today. Transmitted through contact with blood and body fluids, the disease is one of a few designated a risk to national security by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, which has sent a team to Guinea to investigate.

“We fully understand that the outbreak of Ebola is alarming for the local population, but it is essential in the fight against the disease that patients remain in the treatment center,” Taylor said in the e-mailed statement.

Ebola totally out of control

A senior official for Doctors Without Borders has warned that the Ebola virus is “totally out of control” in west Africa, where an outbreak of the disease has killed more people than ever before.

The current outbreak began in Guinea either between the beginning and end of last year, but had appeared to slow before picking up pace again in recent weeks, including spreading to the Liberian capital for the first time.

Ebola has since been linked to more than 330 deaths in Guinea, Sierra Leone and Liberia, according to the World Health Organization (WHO).

Doctors Without Borders' director of operations, Bart Janssens, said that the medical group’s resources are becoming increasingly stretched, and urged both the governments of the countries affected and international organisations to send in more health experts.

“The reality is clear that the epidemic is now in a second wave,” Janssens said. “And, for me, it is totally out of control.”

I hate to say it but as sad as that much loss of human life will be, the whole attitude there is going to get them all killed...and like Coligny said, I really wonder at what point carpet bombing select populations who are breeding the next super ebola becomes a viable option.

Ebola outbreak: WHO calls for emergency talks as death-toll reaches 467 in West Africa

Meanwhile, there is this Japanese guy who insists on creating even more lethal variants of already lethal viruses.

A controversial scientist who carried out provocative research on making influenza viruses more infectious has completed his most dangerous experiment to date by deliberately creating a pandemic strain of flu that can evade the human immune system.

Yoshihiro Kawaoka of the University of Wisconsin-Madison has genetically manipulated the 2009 strain of pandemic flu in order for it to “escape” the control of the immune system’s neutralising antibodies, effectively making the human population defenceless against its reemergence.

Let me guess.

His next project will be to cross the Ebola virus with the common cold virus...

This little pandemic that nobody cares aboot is still going on...

http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2014-07-1 ... -rise.html

Wonder if it will be like all those movies where it's ok, it's ok, it's ok, then there is a log ampliflicration and everybody is fucked overnight... Or even better, they find a cure that don't work well and instead of the virus killing the hosts rapidly they just incubate and stay contagious for much longer then liquefy and then it's game over...
