OK in Miyagi, but there will be a tsunami ... already 90cm at Soma. If that's the extent of it we're OK, but you never know. There seems to be an outbound wave in progress, and that is a bit worrying.

Evacuation centers have been opened in my area so that people down by the coast have somewhere to go.

Tsunami estimates are being upgraded. School in my area has been cancelled for the day. And ... the coolant circulating system at the Fukushima No. 2 nuke plank #3 spent fuel pool has stopped. Temperatures are low and there's plenty of water in the pool, so no immediate problem, they say. But jeez ...

The cooling pool in #2 has shutdown so even if denying any radiation leak now, there will be one and likely at significant levels.

If I heard correctly the pool is at 28 degrees now, and they expect it to take 7 days to rise to 60 degrees if cooling is not recovered before then. Did I hear incorrectly? where do you get your information that there will be a radiation leak?

And they just got the cooling re-enabled now according to NHK. I call bullshit on your prediction.

Omae Mona is right. It's not the reactor. It's the spent fuel pool (as I mentioned above).

Next is the part where French people accuse me of attempted murder when I tell people in Kansai they don't have to evacuate to South Africa to avoid certain death by radiation poisoning.

Re: Earthquake!

The U.S. Embassy in Tokyo warns U.S. citizens in coastal areas of Northeastern Japan that the Japan Meteorological Agency has issued a Tsunami warning for Fukushima Prefecture, the Pacific Coast of Aomori Prefecture, Iwate Prefecture, Miyagi Prefecture, Ibaraki Prefecture and the Kujukuri and Sotobo Area of Chiba Prefecture. The Tsunami Warning follows a powerful earthquake that struck off the coast of Fukushima Prefecture just after 6:00 AM Japan Standard Time. The text of the current warning is available here http://www.jma.go.jp/en/tsunami/. The predicted size of the wave is between one and three meters, with the largest wave expected along the coast of Fukushima Prefecture.

Persons in coastal regions under the Tsunami Warning should evacuate immediately from coastal regions and riverside areas to a safer place such as high ground or an evacuation building. Tsunami waves are expected to hit repeatedly. Do not leave safe ground until the warning is lifted. All U.S. citizens living in or traveling to the area should monitor local weather reports, follow directions from local officials, and take other appropriate actions as needed.

The Embassy is monitoring the situation and will provide further information as it becomes available.

Lots of comings and goings here in Hachinohe. The port has completely evacuated, as have many people by the coast. They can now use their 3 million dollar soccer stadium/evacuation center for the first time! Hope the waves are not too high in Nattori Hammer!

last time I checked they was somehow quakeproofed so unless there is some sort of unforseen destruction they should at least be re-fill-able if tepco took the drink bar option at the local famiresu.

The icewall never worked anyway so it cant really be damaged. And if tepco is lucky a wave big enough might flush away all those dirty water storage tanks...

And thanks to Omae Mona for dutifully fullfilling his moderator duty of pushing the needle to full retard in such a short notice. Your work here is really appreciated, I would write a recomendation letter to have you awarded the order of Lenin but seems the phone number don't work anymore...

Mind you, looking at the footage it kind of looks like Tepco are hoping for another big wave to come and wash away all that radioactive water. Five years on and they still haven't built a 20 meter sea wall.

Happy to oblige. I hope my translations of the news into English arrived in time to prevent you from soiling as many pants as last time. Lately I feel the need to be helpful, to make up for my dereliction of duty as moderator years ago when I neglected to ban you before you single-handedly drove away about half the active members of this forum.

It was about a 4 up here. Way too much large-scale seismic rock n' roll lately.

Think of it as the earth releasing its stress. You'll be fine.

I'm sure that's tongue-in-cheek, but just for the record: recent history begs to differ.
