What, did they sit down for a group meeting like they always do rather than act?

I think we all saw the pressure relieve itself quite well indeed. The problem now is still the loss of coolant and the rods melting that they were talking about all afternoon.... did they mention anything about that?MaxPower wrote:It does seem incredibly low given some of the footage doesn't it. They are reporting that they relieved the pressure at the plant... let's hope its not BS.

Some engineers might like to delude themselves into believing it is so, but the nuclears engineers I have taught in Matsuyama have quite candidly told me that for any quake above magnitude 8 the bets are off.

The outer building was damaged, but the containment dome and reactor vessel are intact. The explosion will likely be found to be from hydrogen.
Seawater is being used to reduce the temperature in the reactor.
The evacuation is prudent because we're in special times and circumstances with a once-in-a-millennium event, but you guys are jumping a little ahead of the game.
If you want to speculate, speculate about Monday and the next decade. This will change the entire energy system of Japan. What happens when factories open, shopping centers open, all the trains run, lights are on, heaters and air conditioning is running?
We're headed to a decade or more of painful energy cuts. TEPCO can't generate enough power to meet demand with most Kanto businesses closed today. What about next week?
Energy prices are going to skyrocket. The anti-nuclear lobby will force more gas and oil generation. It looks like small-scale solar for shops and homes may finally become cost efficient soon.
