Nah, it was right on Japanese style. The earthquake was off rattling at about 2:20 this morn and I was watching TV, so I was able to note that the early warnings were promptly displayed between 2:30-45 depending on the channel.

It's only supposed to give 10 or 15 seconds advance warning, but they didn't realize it takes about 30 minutes to get the TV stations into action.

But I suppose it could be worse. My local university just installed new emergency warning sirens, they decided to test them this week. They started with the tornado siren.. during a thunderstorm. After checking the weather alerts online and discovering there was no tornado coming, I phoned the campus security office and politely suggested this test was not such a good idea. They said they were barely started, they planned to test the sirens repeatedly for the next three hours! Fortunately, the test was aborted when a real storm warning was issued, and the sirens went silent.

I know of a UC application company that can act on alerts from this system, then automatically broadcast to IP devices and cell phones based on this content... *hint* *hint* ;) Therefore no need to have some person fumble around with the mic, read off a sheet of paper, only to figure out that the earthquake already struck 10 minutes ago...

Just had a decent sized shaker here in Osaka. Was fairly short but the building certainly shook. Anyone else feel it?

Lurk, your post says that you posted this at 10:28, but it is only 10:13 in Tokyo as I write this and haven't felt a thing. Maybe it's on the way?

Yep Lurk - the earth moved for me too :-) Big thump and then the mandatory silence as everyone in the office looks around at eachother and has a chuckle.
Mr Kobayashi: First, I experienced a sort of overpowering feeling whenever I was in the room with foreigners, not to mention a powerful body odor coming from them. I don't know whether it was a sweat from the heat or a cold sweat, but I remember I was sweating whenever they were around.

Good to know this was just an earthquake. I thought the Nyquil was taking me down a strange tunnel. First cold of Winter's got the earth shaking.

Yeah, it's all fun'n'games until the buildings fall down, highways collapse, and 6000+ people die. Fuckin' wanker.

(Bet you love Typhoons too eh? For maximum enjoyment I suggest you climb up on your roof during the next one.)

Hey. Don't be mad at him. Earthquakes are a novelty until you've been scared by one. Same thing happened to me. I was playing Nintendo in a buddies room and the building started swaying and I was thinking, COOOOOL and did not understand my friends' apprehensiveness. This happened a few times over a few months.
One night an earthquake wakes me up, I think cool, this feels good. I roll over and go back to sleep. A little later, it's a little harder and I roll over again, and shortly after that, all hell broke loose with stuff falling off cabinets and bookshelves. After it was all over, I had to go take a dump.

That was the day I learned getting the crap scared out of you is a REALITY.

I did not like earthquakes too much after that.
I will not abide ignorant intolerance just for the sake of getting along.

The painkillers or the information?

The painkillers probably aren't worth sharing, they certainly didn't have any affect on the pain. I hate dentists.
