Yeah it's fine until one scares you that much that when someone bumps your desk or a train rumbles past you go all clammy until you pull yourself together. Then one does hit and you wait...is it still going...getting stronger..fuck...how much stronger....ooohhh....ohhhhh.......phew, thank fuck for that.
I'd be quite happy to never go through another one again, even the little ones freak me out.

I did after reading your post and 4.3 is hard to match, but it was fun trying. I'm glad I finally got to work. I need the rest.

Nice One! JMA says 6.7 magnitude, but USGS says 6.8.

Yeah, that "big" one last night did make me a bit nervous. Hell, it even woke up my Japanese coworkers. That tells you something.

I was more worried about my TV falling over than anything else.

It was somewhat surreal as I was joking with someone that we'd all be royally fucked if a huge earthquake ever hit us like they did in Kobe. When that nice and loooong, rolling one hit us last night, I thought I jinxed myself and that some divine being was out trying to screw me for saying that out loud.

Yeah, I recall reading about a casualty in a relatively modest LA quake, about 4.5 I think, it hit early morning when everyone was sleeping. Some little kid's head got crushed under a falling TV. Moral of the story: don't sleep in front of the TV.
I note my high end Japan-built Sony Trinitron XBR TVs have tie-down straps on the back of the stands, to keep them from tipping over in a quake. And it's a good thing because they're like 90 to 100 pounds.

That's fucking hilarious because that was my first thought too. If my TV broke, I'd be a very sad Jerk.

Actually, I'm waiting for a big quake to knock my monster analog TV off it's pedestal and break it into a million pieces. Then I can justify buying a nice digital one, even though I rarely even watch TV once a week. Guess I've got until 2011 for a major quake to strike my TV dead.

That was a strong 6 in Iwate. It's spread across the entire top half of honshu.

No tsunami though.

I have your tsunami right here in landlocked Iowa. The Governor declared 83 of our 99 counties a disaster area. No federal disaster declaration has been made. No federal help has been issued. The whole state is underwater, and FEMA responded with a press release that says FEMA is dispatching a communications truck to coordinate future press releases.

This is a news photo taken 4 blocks from my house:
