it's not just technology, it's a way of thinking: the ability to think critically, not relying on group decisions, the ability to make quick decisions.

Not trying to stand up for our grossly inept and incompetent hosts, but there's hardly a cuntry on earth that is not like that...except Somalia or other basket cases lacking governments. Even there if you act in a rash manner, they'll just blow your head off and your bereaved family don't even get the satisfaction of retribution. Unless some warlord decides to impose Shariah, which would be real fun.
