99% Korean - Japanese 1%

Postby Bucky » Wed Oct 17, 2012 11:14 pm

Now we know.

"Ninety nine percent of Japanese restaurants are run by Koreans. The Japanese, they work in offices and in business. Koreans, we know how to run restaurants," said owner Yonok Kang with a grin.

Kimchee sushi anyone?

99% Korean, Japanese 1%, 100% cult crazies!

I hate going to sushi joints the States since the Korean run places are all loonie Moonies or creepazoid Christians. What is worse is that the few Japanese sushi-ya are inevitably are Soka Gakkai. :cry2:

The Chinese one are worse, in the states anyway. I find that since Chinese people do not eat raw fish, they lack the understanding of what is and is not edible. At least the Koreans also eat sushi and sashimi so they have something to gauge ingredients and preparation on.

What's really crazy is that Christians are less than 30% of the population in South Korea and with a big chunk of those being Catholics and mainline protestants there aren't as many really wacky evangelical types as it seems. They're just super fucking vocal and aggressive. I've never seen that much random proselytizing either and I'm originally from the Bible belt. I think the US Korean population is mostly Christian though. A friend of mine who is a non-Christian Korean American pretty much tried to avoid socializing with other Korean because they were constantly inviting him to church.

A girl I know in Seoul who is from a marginally Buddhist family (they're Buddhist like the Japanese are) converted a couple of years ago. When I told my other Korean buddy about he had a great response. "It's too bad that God took a friend from us." For the me the real tragedy is I probably won't get to fuck her again.

I'll go you one better. Here in podunk Iowa, due to various guv'ment policies, we have lots of SE Asian refugees. Locally, it's mostly Cambodians and Burmese. The local "Thai" place does "sushi"...

Well, it's great to see the West has got over that "all the Asians look the bloody same, anyway" mentality.
And, that the Asians are doing so much to encourage that evolution, too...

Kinda off topic - but I think the best (most tragic) post I ever read on FG many many moons ago was a n00b about to embark on a trip to Japan. It read something like, (paraphrasing) "I want to get a girlfriend while I am there, but I am worried about how I will recognise her in a crowd as all asians look the same."

Couldn't tell if it was a real troll or an unintentional trolling effort, but I laughed my arse off with that one.

Mominlaw have this creepy habit to call dad by his firstname when she speaks aboot him... and I never remember it since we just call him... dad (or sensei, as usual here)... usually... so everytimes she do this i'm good for a "wait ! who ?" scare...

THIS....everytime there is someone dead or really sick from sushi, they interview staff or owners from the shop and I've yet to see any that are not Chinese.

There is a really shitty Japanese run sushi(i)ya by my parents house that I got dragged to by a friend that swore up and down it was the best ever....sure, the staff are Japanese but they know jack shit about fish or how to cut anything. Old fish and cuts that looked like chicken nuggets on blobs of rice. Yuck...

Don't you love it when you're back home and people want take you to their favorite Japanese restaurant? Even if a place were as good as the best places in Ginza, the last thing I want to eat the week or two I get to The States every year is Japanese food.

When I was living back in Seattle we ordered a bottle of Oozeki sake (which was supposed to be top shelf) for the table at one of the better restaurants. That shit was over a hundred bucks and I don't even think it was an issho bin.

And the problem with nihonshu is that is has a terrible shelf life. At least with shouchu you can drink it over a couple of years.
