"Top Gear" goes out with a punch (allegedly)

Postby Samurai_Jerk » Wed Mar 11, 2015 10:59 am

Jeremy Clarkson, Top Gear host, suspended by BBC after 'fracas'

Top Gear host Jeremy Clarkson has been suspended by the BBC after what it called a "fracas" with a producer.

Sources said he was accused of hitting the producer in an incident last week, and the remaining three episodes of the current series might not be broadcast.

The BBC confirmed one episode - due for broadcast on Sunday - would not be shown, but gave few further details.

Clarkson, 54, has not commented, but has been joking on social media about films that could replace Sunday's show.

He was given what he called his "final warning" last May after claims he used a racist word during filming.

At the time, he said the BBC had told him he would be sacked if he made "one more offensive remark, anywhere, at any time".

In a statement earlier, the BBC said: "Following a fracas with a BBC producer, Jeremy Clarkson has been suspended pending an investigation.

"No one else has been suspended.

"Top Gear will not be broadcast this Sunday.

"The BBC will be making no further comment at this time."

You forgot the bully part, but yeah. Funnily, he is meek as a mouse when he appears on QI, but quite enjoyable. Maybe he and Fry are friends and he fears a real roasting by his betters? To me he has always been an empty balloon inflated by whatever noxious gases his mindless plebdrone fans expel. The only thing that would make that show even remotely interesting would be a constant loop of the midget's rocket car crash followed by Frankie Boyle's Mock the Week joke about it. Anybody that can sit through 4 minutes of that drivel should seek help, or at least get a hobby that involves using their brain more than once every 4 years. That show is living proof that far, far too many white men are too stultified to be worth the price of the bullet they so richly deserve. Chibaka excepted, natch........

Glad to know I'm not the only one. I found the show slightly amusing the few times I've seen it but I was always puzzled by how much people love it. Especially considering how obvious it was that there was a lot of pro-rasslin' level bullshit on there. I figured it was just because I'm not a car guy.

By the way, there are a lot of Japanese fans of the show too.

I am a bit of a car guy, but my reaction was almost exactly this.

Amused at first, watched a few episodes, but Clarkson rapidly became repetitive, boorish, and unfunny.

The Japanese rip-off -- Ogi-Yahagi's "No Car No Life" -- is not nearly as big-budget or flamboyant as Top Gear, but it is interesting enough that it has kept me watching for several years (except for the repeats).

I'm pleasantly surprised. The last time I said I thought he was a narrow minded gin and jag set mildly amusing but all too quickly one trick, irritating oaf I was greeted with choruses of disapproval and aspersions on the topic of my manhood. I think it was after that Mexican car thing.

Anyway, where I used work, throwing punches was classified as gross misconduct and invariably resulted in termination without compensation. And that's what should happen.

Well they're saying "hit." I just thought "punch" sounded better in the subject line. In his defense he might have just given a slap. Allegedly of course. ;)

The guys who design cars impress me, guys who understand fluid dynamics and such. Clarkson made a career being critical of their engineering skills from the point of view of a coach potato.

Having said this, the last time I watched top gear the Alman Brothers provided the soundtrack.

Nearly as iconic as Grinderswitch and John Peel, listen to the first few bars and try not to hear that scouse accent

Exactly what Simon Cowell told him on set.

Not difficult to rant while doing jack shit.
(Now, if you check the history of the first gen Audi TT, you'd be much less impressed... Basically, too much rear lift at highway speed making the car unstable and deadly. Had to make a safety recall to stick a rear lip spoiler on the back of the trunk lid)

Very un-PC of me, but I must confess to having been mildly amused by the odd episode over the years, despite not giving a crap about cars. Usually at about that point on international flights where the only other viable entertainment alternative is stabbing one's eyes out with a plastic fork.

For me Clarkson and his views and jokes came across as being stuck in the late 60ies/early 70ies. Maybe he just didn't realize that the universe kept on turning since then?

Haven't seen the show since it was on BBC World, must be some years. I did quite like it, though.

Yes, a pleasant surprise for me too. I have roundly excoriated for my effeminate tastes in TV and films anyways, but Top Gear is simply too much. If you have at least a bit of a car thing the cool soundtracks alone could make for some entertainment so that we can just down to taste, but it has always reminded me of a redneck testosterone soaked version of cougar bait shows and films like The Sisterhood of the Travelling YaYa Gypsy Pants. Hardcore fans just seem too satsified with that sad git aspect of the humour.

But if you have an inkling, check him out on QI. He's far from brilliant or even all that funny but he holds his own without being a dickhead and his banter with Fry is quite fun. If I get bored enough I'll list his appearances, and it's all on Utube.

I think the thing that put me off that program the most was that it quickly becomes apparent that it's not really about the cars. It's about Clarkson and crew. So if you're interested in seeing and learning about cars you might never have a chance to own, for example, it is a big disappointment.

Jay Leno's Garage, on the other hand, is great for that.

It looks like someone threw a tantrum because he was hungry.

James May has confirmed that Jeremy Clarkson was involved in "a bit of dust up" with a producer in an apparent row over catering arrangements during location filming.
Clarkson, 54, is reported to have hit Oisin Tymon, 36, after being told no dinner had been laid on for the presenters after they finished filming for the BBC2 show one evening last week.

So.............
Clarkson told producer Oisin Tymon he fancied an 8oz sirloin with fondant potatoes, pan-fried wild mushrooms, grilled cherry tomatoes and peppercorn sauce.

not only is he a bully that abuses the help when he doesn't get his whiney way but is also revealed to be a closet food homosexual. Not the peppercorn sauce so much, natch.
